In issue 17 of AMC at the back of the mag they had some details of the two Team Brock/Patterson L34s as well as the section that i scaned on the Bob Jane car. Cheers, Grant

Here is a picture of the same car with a vinyl roof. Not my sort of thing either. Just another way to make a car rust.

An old ad for that car is in the latest unique cars. They estimate its current value as 60 to 70k and make some nasty jibes about the bvr and sunroof. I don't agree with them.

I believe I will be able to help you. It is by chance I stumbled across your post after playing on google looking up Bathurst torana photos. I am the owner of an Orange Bathurst L34 ex bob Jane car (never racer) with its original vic number plate still attached LZF.200. My understanding is that bob had 6 cars built and raced 4 of them, with all of them having consecutive vic rego plates of the LZF.....
I purchased the car and did not realise exactly what it was. I knew it was a genuine L34 and had a clue to its Bathurst origin due to a lack of filler in the body which was done to save weight. I am not 100% confident it is the one from your photos but it was red with a holly when I bought it but had all the normal interior (no race seat) and it did not have that fuel tank in it. I have a feeling mine may be a different one that by chance was also, painted red.?? When I bought mine it was being used as a daily driver to take the kids to school if you can believe that.

G'day Grant. Look from the 28 minute mark of this video. It shows PB's car at the '74 Bathurst. The tank looks the same set up as the one you show except it has both vertical and horizontal handles.

Good pick up Robbie. The one in Grant's photo looks the same apart from it missing the top handle and the spillage shroud. I have always been of the opinion that there were more than the 2 Group C cars and the rally car. HDT were allocated at least eight L34s from GMH. We just don't know how many of these spent their whole life as promo cars. There certainly didn't seem to be any shortage of cars during '76 when Walker had one based in SA, which had a big rear ender and ended up in the fence, around the same time as Gricey and Bond tangled destroying a car, and yet they still turned up at Bathurst with two racers and a T car. Busy year for the workshop.

Yeah Laurie, if you have a look at the 29:13 mark you get a real good look at Bondy's tank. Same set up. Obviously HDT used the one manufacturer for the tanks. As an aside I always thought the reviews on the L34 were a bit harsh. Much ado about how they weren't as legendary, performance wise, as the A9X. Heck they won the Manchamp in their first year. Bondy was called into pits at Bathurst because of two loose sump bolts causing oil to leak onto the exhaust and subsequent smoke out the back. Probably cost him the race. Then the L34 went on to win the '75 and '76 Bathurst. Somehow they got the reputation they weren't reliable when compared to the A9X. Could never understand it.

I would assume that maybe Colin himself was building the tanks? He was fabricating the alloy roll cages after all.

Couldn't agree more, the L34 gets treated a bit harsh in history even though it's results show a pretty damn good car for it's time in Motorsport.

I wonder if the front wheel well modification (for tyre clearance at back) was legal?
