Need help to find out the name of the truck like stack muffler that you run along the sills from the front door on the Lc/Lj Torana 2 door, as a mate had them in the 80's.
They looked cool with the chrome heat shield and finished in front of the back wheel. Dave I

But yes your bang on Marcus Lakepipes is the correct term for the pipes down the sill with the heat shield thing.
Cheers.

The exhaust needs to exit 400mm(from memory) past the last opening, which on a 2 door is behind the diff.why are they illegal.

Hi warrenm,
Thank's for that - A friend of mine say's it is 650mm behind the last window, and he also said you can get an open permit for lakepipes.
So if we put the exhaust output facing in, run an extension up over the diff and back down behind the rear wheel, we could be in business. Dave I

The outlet of an exhaust system must be rearwards of any passenger side entry door or opening
window. If any part of the exhaust system, including the outlet pipe, extends beyond the profile of
the body (other than on the underside), it must be shielded. Exhaust outlets must also meet the
requirements of ADR 42/… where applicable. Vehicles manufactured after June 1988 must not
have the exhaust exiting to the left of the vehicle.
So pre-1988 should be able to run sidepipes. But as others have said - why would you ? Because they can look awesome done right and on the right car - Corvettes and Cobras spring to mind.
If its what you want on your car then do it

Now this is why the Lc/Lj Tory had the Lake-pipes on, as they possibly took the ADR book with them.
We are one step closer, now to find a 2.5" set. Dave I
p.s. I heard the Lake-pipes have catalytic converters built in as well, in our case pre 1988

Just want to see what they look like on the car before we have to send someone around to beat some sense into him.

I saw a picture once, burnt my computer to the ground then stared into a HID spot light for a full hour trying to get rid of the image burnt on my retinas.
Think of a UC with flares, and multiply that horridness by 1000, and your 1/4 the way there.
Cheers.

Here is a Chop Job of how I will do my RAT:-
http://toranaclub.co...kepipes/RAT.bmp
p.s. the sills are removed and replaced with a con-caved piece so the Lakepipe sits snug.

Wot is correct, the other pic isn't Lakes pipes. Those arent lakes pipes.
These are lakes pipes.
They look better if they come outside the body with perforated guards over the top.
Run the outlets like Wot's pic with blanking plates either on the outside or behind a bolt tail-piece(that cannot go outside the line of the guard.
Then have another outlet on the inside of the pipe running under the car and dumping over the diff.
Then you've got all the looks of the Lakes pipes, and you can uncap them and drop the dump pipes at events/shows......

Great posts and we can incorporate ideas.
I did ask for the name of the Truck like Mufflers with guards which Corvettes have them on, so what are they called? DJ said side-pipes.
The Picture that BAD UC put up, is more like the type that I am looking at only with perforated guards. Dave I
