thank's Danny and DJ,

was reading further, and if you drive interstate,

your Vehicle has to be legal for that state too, regardless of the Visiting Time.

and as for the last sealed opening, the boot could be welded if need be.  :deal:

lucky for Me,

South Australia is Legal to have Side Pipes Now.

When they refer to an opening it generally means an opening into the cabin, like a window or door, so there should be no need to weld the boot shut

Sorry to hijack the thread...

I have been curious for a while, what performance advantages can be seen from side pipes?

I believe Brocks Toranas all ran side pipes from 73, hence I would imagine their are some advantages..

I was out watching the NC race cars last weekend and saw a few of the XU1s running side pipes also. Obviously not the VETTE style with heat shields, but just the side flow sticking its nose beneath the drivers door.

The full length exhaust restricts how much horsepower the motor can produce. Too much backpressure maybe.

The speedway guys used to run a straight bit of pipe back from the extractors with a chalk line drawn on it. They would do a few laps and where the chalk hadn't burnt off was where they cut it off.

and less weight

and would be good if we don't need to weld the boot shut.

I really don't think that is your main problem here.

It is whether they will allow the hot pipes to run down the sills or not, shielded or otherwise.

Difficult to fit a decent sized exhaust around the diff without tight bends, going out the side eliminates that problem. Plus it looks cool B-)

Getting the pipe over the diff is generally the most restrictive area. Eliminating this is good.

When they refer to an opening it generally means an opening into the cabin, like a window or door, so there should be no need to weld the boot shut

I did ask that question, due to the boot having several openings into the boot it was deemed part of the cabin, so welding the holes in the rear bulkhead and parcel shelf may suffice.

Cheeer.

Measured up the side pipes on the 11th of June, 02:46 PM, for the RAT ( 1830mm ), and 70" will be perfect:-

Sure will Maz,

from the link above, would cost $400 aud,

which will need to wait for a special.

Low back pressure,

 2 1/4" id and performance sound :)

To run a louvered boot lid on my Chev the engineer required a firewall to separate the boot from the back seat.

I have run an exhaust pipe exiting either side of this car for twenty years, never had an issue with the law.

Nothing without the engine in the way. It has an HK Holden column and brake booster, no heater.

I reckon all whats needed is to seal them
round holes with plate sikaflexed and screwed
down should be suffient and a couple other
small areas.being a 4 door once those holes
are done it would be hard for any fumes to
get in.

Thinking there is a motor in the boot Laz.

Correct Maz,

I remember the fuel tank breather tube always breaking,

and the benzine ( yum ) fumes would be present in the cab.

been thinking about how to connect the extractors to the side pipes,

and now have come up with the idea of removing the LC/LJ sump hump,

run a dry sump system, and run the rear 3 port primaries down and under through that space to the drivers side side pipe.

so a custom job option job there

Good thinking or run the tune length dual
pacemaker headers .just like how a single
side pipe goes after the headers you have
2 90 deg angles but you will just have one ea
side muffler then your pipes ?.

The muffler on lhs will be tight?
