Just fitted a 253 in my Uc .I wanted it too look original inside so modified the gear selector from left to right..Not easy but works ok.The problem I have is that when I am in drive the auto quadrant say between d and s .I suspect that a uc trimatic has a different adjusting leaver at the gearbox. Can anyone confirm this .I know the rod is different as it is set up to the left.I used an lLX one and had to shorten it.I recently looked at a VH commodore and noticed they use a different linkage /leaver at the auto box.Straight and longer compared to the Lx that has a kink.Would be interested if anyone could help me sort out my dilemma I suspect a Uc has a different leaver at the auto box.

The uc leaver at the gearbox is the same as the lx one.The commodore one wont fit (wrong ratio and hits the floor). Was the lx rod out of a 4cyl ?. If it was out of a 6cyl/v8 it shouldn't have needed to be shortend.

Should be the same lever I think? did the length of the lever on the shifter stay the same length after you modified it?
Also you can get stock shifters for both left and right side shifting boxes, the early UC's had right side ones and the later models had lefty's. Same with hq - wb's, basically the same shifters too, just different brackets for the consoles etc. I just bought a left side shifter to suit the t700 in our UC from ebay, there was plenty for sale...
