Thanks Eric, there was a lot more work in the dash refit than I had first expected but I'm happy with the results.
Very keen to have it fitted up and working though I need to do a 5km drive to calibrate the speedo so I don't think that will be happening while still unregistered...

Looks great and the best part is it will look original once its finished.

Wow, I am blown away by your dash cluster. I need to do the same with mine for the RB25. Looks great.

Thanks guys.
Don't hold back if there's any info on the dash refit that you need, though I've still got to make it all work in the car...

Got the oil pressure and temp sensors fitted to the 173 and the gearbox VSS wired up and the gauges are all looking to be operational now. The Autometer oil pressure sender was a pain in the arse as it's too big to screw straight into the block without fouling on the oil pump. A 90 degree elbow took care of that but the coil had to be lifted up in it's bracket to clear the sender.
No photo just yet as I'm still waiting on the LED gear for the high-beam light indicator.
Spotted a colour at ToranaFest that I really like and I think it's Dublin Green. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Thanks Craig.
It looks like a nice colour on the HQ as well.

Bloke I know here has an HQ Prem in that colour. Looks real nice with the Prem chrome and a polish!

great work so far steve, looks like you know your stuff, makin me jealous alot a people have told me the 4dr looks shit,i have proved them wrong.im at the beginning of the build aswell.once i learn how to put pics up i will show ya what your beast can look like steve and i guarantee you will like the stance, and i reckon you are a hands on guy who could quite easly do it yourself, you gonna tub her steve and put some juicy rubber under the bum
Posted 02 October 2013 - 09:48 AM
Cheers Jason, thanks for the encouragement. No plans for tubs in this one, I've got hold of a set of 15 x 6 steelies and am planning on either stock hubcaps or possibly some GTR caps. Apart from dropping it down a couple of inches I'd like it to appear mostly unmodified on the outside.
Keen to see some photos of your progress so far, there's a topic at the top of this forum about adding pics. Get em up!

Wow, that looks serious. Awesome.

get that grinder out steve ,they are 15/10s under it with 12.5 tyres, thats how they should look personally.them inner tubs make it hard to get em low,the tye has to go in an inch or so ,so they dont rub on the inside,i can see why you r putting 6s on it.whats next with your project
Posted 05 October 2013 - 08:15 PM
Gotta say, it does look pretty good, but for the little weekend cruiser the 6ers should do me ok.
Next stop is pick and payless to score a check engine light lens off something recent and that will finish off the dash. After that I'll need to start on the wiring for the delco and get a fuel pump sorted out. I was thinking of a modified VZ commo in-tank pump grafted into the side of the standard LJ tank. Should be hidden away well and also nice and quiet.

is the top hole for the fuel sender not big enough to get your hand down in there to put an in tank pump,i was thinkin if ya graft one on the side ,will you be able to sevice it say if it stuffs up,u would have to make a baffle or something if she gets low on juice or should it be right, ,done any diagrams you could show of the mods u will do to tank,

No diagrams all in the head at the moment. I was thinking of putting it into the side of the tank as that part is nice and flat compared to ridged part on the top.
A smaller in-tank pump loaded through the sender hole is definitely another option that I'm considering and might be the easier way to go. I think this one would do the job but not really sure.
Any thoughts on that one?

that pump is more than capable, bit too big steve that pump is not meant for use in lightly modified vehicles,id suggest something like a walbro 190 ltr/hr,they have alot of accesories and filters ,i remember seeing one years ago on the original in tank line, the alloy fuel line was cut, then the feul pump was clamped on with a bend in the alloy fuel line to clear the floaty with the filter at the end,it was something like that,i reckon you will be able to muster something up,

Thanks for the info. I went looking for the Walbro 190 and found it looks very similar to this one I pulled out of a VE Commodore fuel module. It runs the 6.0 litre engines so shouldn't have any trouble with the 202.

If I mount it right about here on the original fuel sender it will just fit through the tank hole. I've got some stainless cable ties on the way so it can be clamped to the original pickup pipe. Not enough room to get it in there with pipe clamps holding it on.

I'll add another tube to the sender cap and use that as the outflow with the original pickup tube used as a return close to the pump intake. I would have liked to use the swirlpot from the VZ pump but if I can avoid cutting open the tank than this'll be a better option (until I have to start filling it up at half tank intervals...)
Here's how the little cork floaties looked from the original sender unit. I think I'll replace them with the plastic bubble from the VE sender.

them walbro pumps came out on gm cars from 98 i think, thats yank cars,i think thats gonna work nicely steve, them cork floaties look like they only last th
warranty, the two senders i got from toranas have bubble on ,didnt know some come out with cork bud

The cork floaties came from an ebay tank that didn't look modified in any way. No idea what year it was though...
I'm planning on using a standard tank Graham as I'd prefer to keep the boot space but I have considered fitting one of the repro XU-1 tanks for the extra range. I do remember my previous Torana being a little limiting in that area.
