Thanks John and Craig. Not a fan of the shiney boot, it's a satin so it should flatten out as it drys.

Would love to paint something small in the orange but it's a big process. All base coats in 2k then I have to undercoat in Acyrilic, then white acrylic then the Tangerine. I reckon this will glow in the dark.

Marty

Haha yeah mate, not trying to make you rush it, just got a tad excited when you showed us the colour and looking forward to seeing it on the car.

I bet you are too!

Not much John, Getting battery tray in is tricky. Had to get some paint down first in the areas you can't get to once the tray is in. Welded it in then KBS d it.

Also painted inside the plenum.

Next step is the front inside guards with stone chip then the engine bay.

Boot is painted. Used black with 10% white paint. It may not be totally the right colour but from what I've heard as long as it's not black it should be ok. bymuruta.jpgattachicon.gifImageUploadedByTapatalk1385807295.883988.jpgattachicon.gifImageUploadedByTapatalk1385807313.765234.jpgThis is where I did that repair using a piece of sump. Came up a treat. attachicon.gifImageUploadedByTapatalk1385807422.366133.jpgStarted sanding the.first hifill in the engine bay. zeqybazu.jpgMarty

It looks like it's coming along nicely, well done Marty.

I don't think that there is any single shade of grey that is correct for Adelaide built boots or engine bays, I think each car varies depending on the batch of paint that they were trying to use up. Your colour looks similar to mine, so you should be happy with your result.
Then colour ??? :-)

Steady on Craig, Colour will happen when it's ready, it is tempting to try it though.
Good Job Marty,
Hey, didn't Triples have an angled Battery Tray?

Yep no triples on this power plant, thanks for looking out for me.

Thanks Gong, didn't realise that, i'll do it in Tangerine when the body is painted. I'm glad your keeping an eye on this build, appreciate it.:-)

I've applied the anti gravel to the front guards and given them a good thick coating up the tops. After see a few cars with damaged paint from stones flicking up underneath and denting top of guard.

Coated the inspection plates in position then removed them when I paint the under guards black tomorrow.9eqyzapu.jpga5azery5.jpg

Applied it to battery tray area aswell cause it was a bit pitted.

Take your time Marty and do it right just like you have from the start.

We all want to see colour but we want to see it done right.

I don't think you'd have much luck at the moment anyway, the paint would harden before it hit the car

Was just about to paint the engine bay today when I checked some masking lines. Found a note mentioning the accelerator return spring tab was deleted in 73. Bugger, after some frantic phone calls and checking a heap of photos the decision was made to take it off. That's put me back a day.

Had a fail, painted the engine bay Friday morning but it looked bad. Problem was I'm using a Matting agent in my paint which I mixed up last week. This makes the paint gluggy once left for a while and even though it was strained It was too thick to get out the gun without heaps of air. Caused dust like effect.

This is first coat followed by two more then the effect I was left with. Have since rubbed it back and will try again tomorrow with a fresh paint mix.

Rubbed back and ready to go again.

I had bonnet gap issues, back to cowl is square, good gap LH side but drivers side was too narrow. What to do?
Had a panel beater come over for a look and he helped with a twisted door, a guard sitting high, but what was suggested for this problem worried me. Hit the top of the guard with a bolster then hit the guard out. (sounds bad, and it was) I started this process but after 5 mins I realised this isn't working, plus There will be a visible crease in the top of guard when looking from below. I decided to cut the guard, pull the edge over and weld it up. Then ground weld under guard so no visible sign. Was some scary shit there but now I'm satisfied.
attachicon.gifIMG_3992.jpg
attachicon.gifIMG_3997.jpg
attachicon.gifIMG_4045.jpg

I have seen and done some pretty out there stuff when gaping Holdens but I have never seen anyone split a guard like that.
