After another coat of epotec and giving it a rub I found another soft dent. (The hardest to see).

Hey marty she's starting to look good mate. Engine bay looks pretty good. I like the way you left all the spot welds showing and not bogged up, we'll thats what it looks like to me mate. You must be getting excited about putting paint on soon. Keep going mate good job.

Cheers woosha

Hi Woosha, I like the spot welds etc. trying to keep as much of them visible, they are a feature.
Started to cut in the lines on the sides. This involved penciling in the line then using the speed file to get it right. To do the curved section above the rear arch I used a piece of conduit to draw the curve.
Attached File  ImageUploadedByTapatalk1388578854.239050.jpg   37.64K   24 downloads
Then I used this stuff as a guide coat. Easy to use, no waiting to dry and doesn't clog the paper.

Cross hatch away from line to achieve this result. ymebesyh.jpg

Just found out about these sanding blocks, they use the round Velcro paper and work really well.

So that was all day sanding hi fill. Still got doors and bonnet to do then another coat.

Hi Craig, most threads go straight from the panel work to paint cause this stage is boring.
Be patient and it will happen.
Marty.

Hi Waz, You'd better get a move on then, I hope to be driving it this year.

It's a balancing act getting the last drop out.

Second coat of Hi-fill complete. I can now see the benefit of multiple coats with sanding in between, every coat just looks better and better.

This is the last time I use 2 pack on the body, I will now be using Acrylic starting with a primer, white paint then the colour.  So still plenty of rubbing to do.

Great Job Marty,

There is a lot more involved in a paint job to get it right, then I thought.

Now I know why paint jobs are so expensive. Dave I

Thanks Graham and Dave, boring stuff it is.
I was just rubbing down the roof and found another "soft dent'. Two steps forward and one step back. Can't believe I didn't notice it on the other rub downs. Attached File  ImageUploadedByTapatalk1388926716.950441.jpg   34.44K   34 downloads

Here are the grades of paper I've been using.
1st coat of hifill is guide coated rubbed back with 120 then 180.
2nd coat of hifill. 320 then guide coat and 320 then 800

Nearly there mate, perfection takes time though.

Do you have a completion date in mind or just taking it a day at a time?

I wish I could find the motivation you seem to have, whenever I get in the mood something comes along that stuffs me up.

Hi Craig and John, the only deadline is to have it painted before winter. I feel I will get a much better result if I don't rush. If it's not right, fix it before moving on.
I've painted the boot spring rods and bottom of hinges. Fitted the boot lid. Attached File  ImageUploadedByTapatalk1389264186.954742.jpg   62.26K   26 downloads
Have also fitted doors and bonnet for hopefully final time before paint. Checked all gaps and rubbed down hifill. Attached File  ImageUploadedByTapatalk1389264314.952086.jpg   60.18K   27 downloads
Cast a light over the whole car looking for imperfections and spot filled them.
Attached File  ImageUploadedByTapatalk1389264451.168428.jpg   32.71K   26 downloads
Plan to remove doors etc tonight then over the next couple of days clean up and mask ready for acrylic primer.
Going to get hot in the next few days, up to 44degrees. Painting may have to wait a bit.
Marty

Painted some red oxide on doors (for looks only) was out of a spray can which ran out. Went back to a paint store and was told it's not suitable for under acrylic. It was an enamel spray which will cause the paint to bubble. Not that it would be visible anyway. Lesson learned, wiped it of and this time used an acrylic version. I'll have to keep the acrylic off the oxide in the cabin, should be able to manage that.
