Looking great Marty. You've gotta be feeling chuffed about that.
Was that a wet sand and buff or a buff only?
Posted 16 February 2014 - 09:30 PM
Hi Dave,
that's a 1200 wet sand and water poured over it. Very cheap 'flow coat' but only lasts 5 mins. :-)

Haha, now give it a buff to bring up the gloss but I'm thinking you're planning on applying a few more coats first.

Did another 3 coats and rub down on boot and bonnet, both sides.
Has been a bit too hot to paint car lately.

Thanks All,
Making us suffer the old water torture again eh Marty!
Yes Dave, once the water dries it all looks pretty ordinary.
Also when it dries you can see the lows in the paint peel have not been sanded, feels perfectly smooth but isn't like glass. I'm not sure how smooth this has to be before more paint is applied or will the next layer cover it then sand the last coat like glass.
I'm going to experiment on undersides of boot etc and see if these marks disappear.
When wet sanding it's very hard to see if you have it all smooth until totally dry, i've tried chamois but still difficult to see as your sanding.
Any tips?
Cheers
Marty

hi marty.i use to do the ol water trick when rubbed back me two door 15yr ago,
loved that mirror finish,i used 2200 micron paper then just cleared it,usually you can feel
it when rubbing like starts of biting the paint then it feels like you have the paper upside down

Marty, if you have bad orange peel then you need to smooth it out before applying more coats.
Forget the 1200 grit and get into it with some 800 grit. Be careful not to over sand edges and crease/body lines though.
