1200 is no good for what you are trying to achieve, chop with 600 and then go over with 800. Not only quicker but it will be a much better job.

Cheers Dave

Did another 3 coats and rub down on boot and bonnet, both sides.

Picked up my engine after rebuild, looks a bit ordinary with-out paint.
yhesa2e4.jpg
So it was washed and prepped for etch.
6atuna6u.jpg
The engine builder commented on how tough the epotec etch was. He chucked my etched rocker cover in the acid bath which normally removes most paint. Didn't touch it, just changed colour slightly.
Epotec'd the block.

Next is white 2 pac then rocket red 2 pac.
Has been a bit too hot to paint car lately.
Marty

A 202 from a uc stop this car will need an exorcism to rid of all the bad uc demons from that engine

Hi Mike,

yep, that's your old girl.  She's been bored 30 thou, used your head which had bigger valves fitted, suitable cam, balanced, Starfire conrods and a few minor things. Just built to cruise and hopefully last.

Painted white today and hopefully Red tomorrow.

Cheers

Marty

Standard GTR down draft single stromberg. Gotta love simplicity.

Did the engine switch and put it in the build up stand. Now it can sit there and gradually bolt all the bits to it. Then lift if on to k frame and roll in. hy3ebeve.jpg

Got this stand with a bulk buy of red motors from a high school. Designed to build an engine on and start it.
Here's a guided tour.
Battery mount and lower bracket to secure bell housing too.
behyjype.jpg
Spot to mount radiator.
ta5u2aqa.jpg
Large tube bar is sealed with a screw cap top and drain tube. Anyone got an idea what goes in it? My guess is water.

Think I will run engine on this contraption.

Great run down Marty,

Wouldn't be enough Water in that tube, hey Marty, unless, it is for weighing it down for the Start-up. Dave I

Maybe it's a fuel tank? Attach fuel line to lower pipe and connect to fuel pump.

Yeah, I guess it could be.

Probably get enough in there to get her started  :P

Not sure I'd want to use it that way though.

I'm thinking you might be on the money Marty. The male tail looks like the right size for 5/16" fuel hose and it's on the correct side for the fuel pump.

Made for school kids to use so I'd say if it's for fuel it would be safe.
Will the pump suck air then fuel up hill or does it need priming first? Would need a filter before the pump, can imagine a bit of crap in the tubes.

If you put a bit of fuel in the carby to get it started it should suck it through Marty, might take a couple of goes.

An old NRMA guy (20 years ago) told me that if the accelerator pump on the Stromy is good it'll prime the fuel pump for you no worries after running the tank dry.  A couple of squirts on the throttle, leave it a minute and it should be ready to go.  Not sure it'll get fuel up from below the sump but Potta's got it sorted, or a can of Aerostart for fewer fires in the engine bay is always a good option though it doesn't matter as much on a stand.
