Hi James, was good to see you and your dad today. Look forward to a cruise one day.
Thanks Graham, Dave, Grant, Maz and all others for kind words and support. And Gene for keeping me on my toes.

Been playing with this springy door issue. Took out both door links and compared, hummmm. Slightly different. Maybe a left and right. Changed them to other side and drivers door still good but passenger still springy but didn't over open like it used too.

The only way to fix that I could see was grind off a bit of metal in this area. Marked in black.

Well it now works like a charm.

Hey Marty,

Looking good mate - love your work... It gives me a quality mark to aim for :spoton:

Cheers,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

Thats one of the many things this forum is good for, it makes you lift your level of workmanship.

Many times I've been going to let something go, (close enough) but then I think of all the builds going on and the quality you guys are doing and I have to have another go to get it right.

Masked up and sprayed around the boot hinges and a couple of little ares that need work.

Attached File  IMG_4908.jpg   41.93K   24 downloads

Getting the body read for clear, going to paint with doors, boot and bonnet on so trying some of that rolled tape masking for the gaps.

Attached File  IMG_4915.jpg   31.09K   25 downloads

Attached File  IMG_4916.jpg   38.43K   24 downloads

If this looks wrong or there's a better way, please let me know before Friday.

Cheers

Marty

Do the panels off you are going to get nasty edges, even with a rolled edge. Best if you wrap the whole thing in clear apertures included at the same time, it will save you time and be far superior in quality.

Cheers Dave

That's not what I wanted to hear but thank-you Dave.  Would hate to spoil all my efforts with a stumble at the last hurdle.

All doors and boot are now off and I'll start masking this arvo.  It was a shit of a job taking off freshly painted doors, a few chips in the hinge area which I'll fix once doors back.

Plan is to clear 5 coats, let it dry for a couple of weeks then rub back to a final 2000 grit, compound then mask up for black outs and paint them a satin black.  Then put doors and boot back on mask out blackouts and hand polish colour.

Thanks again

Marty

Thanks John and Blair.
All the major painting done. Just in time too, the old winging pom from house behind me has rung the council to complain about the smell.
What is it with this whining breed of human. I used to be a Pom once but evolved into a decent Aussie.
I have gone to extremes to contain fumes etc by using the booth with filtered extraction blowing away from neighbours and into my own from yard.
I have 5 neighbours and he is the only one with no interest in what I'm doing and complaining. Others are obliging and content to shut doors etc if too noisy.
I've been painting for 6 months and he's only just realised cause I made the mistake of opening doors then spraying a small part while the wind was blowing the other way a few weeks ago.
Now if he hears the compressor he complains I'm painting.
Ok rant over. Let's see some pics.

It's not even a shed really :-)

You've done well Marty.

I remember you telling me that you hoped you would be able to maintain your attention to detail and you certainly have.

No cutting corners anywhere and it is paying off!

Bit more progress this weekend.
With a three week wait till rub back I'm doing some little jobs.
Here's the gear shifter boot plate I made up. Got some measurements off a genuine one.

Hi John, Not much, been busy at work and had a family wedding yesterday. Bent up the shifter boot plate. vuqunegu.jpg. Bit of hi-fill on repairs. a2uvyhyn.jpg. I was prepping the dash for painting and noticed these holes. Can someone confirm they're not factory. Pretty sure I've got to get the welder out again. 8azezymy.jpg. Marty
