Had the rear seats stripped by trimmer so he can use foam as a guide for retrim. Took wire guts home.
Test fitted them to rear, good thing I did, they needed a bit of bending to fit nice, something you couldn't do once trimmed.
Gave them the rust blast treatment so now ready to paint.
Can't believe I tried to cure the manifold in the kitchen oven. Thankfully it didn't fit and had to think of an alternative. The BBQ, how simple.
Cooked at 180 degrees for an hour.

Thanks Jonesy, may as well do the best you can, doesn't take that much longer and no regrets.
Hi John. This weekend has been about chasing Salmon around the South-West.
Did manage to paint the frames though.
This week is getting the blackouts done and diff bushes pressed in.
Cheers

Howdy all,
been a bit busy with work so progress is slow but here's what been happening.
Applied the cavity wax to chassis rails. What a balls up, the shultz gun I used was like turning on a tap, it could pump out 1 litre in 2 seconds, not good when it's $25 per litre. I had containers scattered trying to collect the excess to re-use.

This is the gun and the nozzle size it comes with, take it from me, this gun is good for the underbody stone chip but sucks with rust proofing application.

I ended-up buying some cavity wax in a spray can for all the tricky bits, used the excess from the spray gun to pour into doors, boot and let it flow to all seams and brush on the sides.
Little tip, jack-up the car to flow the wax to both ends, I'm glad I did this, otherwise you will also get pools of the stuff drying in low points. I also blew air through to spread it and get out the excess.

Patched the rocker cover and re-primed. I know these should be chrome on the GTR but until I find a good one this one will be red.

I was going to get black-outs done soon but i'm putting that off until I can rub back and compound the whole car. Leaving the paint for 3 months before this happens. The countdown is on - 6 weeks to go. I'll just have to heat the booth before spraying.

Hey Marty,
Looking good mate - making good progress.
I've got the same gun and yes, they spray heaps - made a real mess on a previous car of mine. I'm not looking forward to doing mine with the same so may have to investigate other options.

Hi Mike, yeah for rust prevention. It's ment to be better than fish-oil, definatley more expensive. Forum member has applied both and left outside in weather with cavity wax out lasting the fisholene. That was good enough for me.

I have the same type of gun, & found the same problem, but reduced the air pressure pretty low & it was better.

Lost track of how long it's been since painting but it's been at least two months. Decided to do some cutting back and compounding.
Started with 1200 and worked my way up through 1500 to 2000. Then using a damp foam pad and some "Juice" cutting compound I got to work with the buffer.
Here are some pics of progress.
Before
after rubbing
after compound
I'll leave judgement to how it came out to those that see it in the flesh.
The diff and axles are getting new bearings and should be ready this week.
