Gave the tank another clean before etching.

bude6ubu.jpg

Etched a few other bits swell. You will note that's a pre 73 crossmember, if any one wants to swap their dirty 73 for a two packed 72 let me know.

All strapped up ready for lifting.

Was tricky getting it on there with wheels hitting crane so had to do it sideways.

Re-did the clutch alignment now that I have a front shaft.

Got the bearings pressed off a couple of main shafts. Big thanks to Jono for his experience, advice and press.

If I had one I'd happily post it for you Gene but pics of the inside workings of the GMH assembly plants are hard to come by, however the GMH Dealer Service Letter says it all. They advised the dealers that these bushes had been installed incorrectly in production and explained the correct way they should be installed.

I've been a long time follower of your thread Marty. The standard of craftsmanship is amazing and I'm sure its given alot of people a pretty high benchmark of what can be achieved with persistence and patience.

Do you still have the measurements for the shifter boot retainer below? Its one of the parts which would be relatively easy to reproduce which i am amazed hasn't been produced given the amount of cars which are converted from auto to manual.

Going to have a crack at knocking one up soon.

Cheers,

Rob

Here's the gear shifter boot plate I made up. Got some measurements off a genuine one.

Got a shot of what a 73 crossmember should look like Marty?
I know of one laying around at our workshop, but unsure of the year...

Sure have Jonesy. Etched one is 72 and dirty black is 73 just gotta make sure the holes are right size, when off an auto they are rubber mounted and have bigger holes to chassis. This 73 is correct (manual)ugure5ap.jpggyhe2ajy.jpg

Put the wiper motor in and tested, we have a winner. Thanks to Dave 'Kermit' for his help in sorting out the electrical gremlins.

I used an old wiper switch and wiring harness section. Really wanted to make sure it parked correctly. at first I was 180 degrees out so lucky I checked.  It parked well, the stop start of the wipers is me trying to turn the switch with one hand unsuccessfully.

Now the heater box can go in.

Private Video? What the?

Its ok, I remember what it looked like.  :spoton:

Your blades are a bit small though mate.

As Marty already knows, I was lucky enough to have a squiz at this thing today, and  I can't tell you guys how good this resto is, words don't describe it.

Everything on the car is either brand new or restored to be better than brand new, and everything has been done right.

If you get a chance to see it now or later, have a look because it is just outstanding.

And as always Marty was happy to take the time to show me the stuff he is currently working on and answer any questions I had.

A top bloke and a seriously well built car.

And that colour just pops, I can't wait to see it in natural light with the shiny Sprintmasters and a front end, its gonna be awesome.

Gee, thanks Craig. Now I'm under pressure cause everyone is going to scrutinise my car. :-)

I've just changed a setting on you tube from private to public, hopefully it works now.

Hi Mike, It'll be an M20 with XU-1 Ratio's which from what I've learned is the same as M21 ratios except 3rd?

Big learning curve.

It's been a quiet month on the car due to other commitments. But we still have progress.
Seven tyres fitted to rims.
