hi Marty, I remembered you said you repaired your grill, and was just wondering how you did it and if you had to replace any of the fins? any info would be appreciated, once again good job

Anyone know where I can get this profile rubber, I've tried Clark Rubber so far with no luck. Goes inside the front guards near the headlights.

Where did you find this rubber Marty? I'm having trouble tracking some down also.

Hi Gary, Try Radum, thats who I used and they are in QLD too.
Bag was about 20KG and from memory about $30????
Not sure what grade I had but I doubt it would matter.

Marty, have been using your thread to get some ideas and inspiration for a LJ coupe rebuild I hope to start soon. Firstly congrats on a fantastic job you did and thanks for taking the time to post photos throughout the build. I want to have a go at painting the the car myself in acrylic and was wondering what type of compressor I will need (ie: hp, flow rate, tank size). Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers paul

Hi Paul,
The compressor is one of the few tools you will keep and use forever, spend the money here. My advice is big volume and high litres a minute.
Heres pictured is my specs, it's a 3 phase and could JUST keep-up with my sand blaster.

No problems with painting but having a large tank helps keep the moisture levels down due to the pump not having to run as much. Use a good water trap system too and a long hose from compressor to first trap giving the moisture time to return to liquid form before going through the trap.
Any compressor will work but if you start with the right tools and attitude you will succeed and end up with a restoration to be proud of.

Thanks Marty,
You probably thought you had put the forum to bed. Hope you are enjoying driving the torry and I bet you get heaps of people giving you the "thumbs up". In relation to the compressor, I won't be doing any sandblasting, only painting, I realise you aren't a spray painter but do you know what specs I would need to do a half decent garage spray job, bearing in mind I don't have 3 phase power at home. Good advice about money spent on equipment, as my dear old dad used to say, "When it comes to buying tools and equipment, buy the best you can afford and if you can't afford it, save up until you can, because you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get!". I have attached a photo of the lc/lj I brought a few months ago and hope to replicate the LJ Torana I used to own in 1984, until someone ran up the rear and wrote my pride and joy off. Just waiting to finish off an extra garage at home before I start on the rebuild, I might even start my own thread when I do!, Thanks again Paul.

Yeah I enjoy getting the car out for a cruise. Lowered the front another 20mm and now it looks right.

Just get the biggest single phase compressor you can. With acrylic you can stop start and still get a top job. It was only the sand blasting that I found the compressor struggling. The most important thing with the compressor is the moisture trap/s.
I see you've got some wide sprint masters there. Very nice.
Cheers

Love your LJ Marty. Fantastic job for someone who had no prior experience. Steep learning curve but you rose to the challenge and came up trumps.
BTW those aren't Sprintmasters on lctriples LJ.

Thanks Dave, you're advice during the build was invaluable.
Your still teaching me stuff.
I know Globe made them, CSA and some wide ones were made in NZ I think. So what do you call that style of wheel without mentioning who made them?
I thought they were all sprintmasters made by different companies. ????
Cheers

Marty, if you look closely at them they are alloy HQ GTS style wheels.
