Thanks Toranajudd
Today I just did some more welding of the bracket for the brake master cylinder and did some wireing for the fuel pump.

G'day Bart,

I have decided I need to make some new cross shafts like the ones you did back on page 11.

Where did you get the 4340 solid bar from??

Any reason you chose to use 4340 rather than 4130? Was it just an availability thing?

Matt I got the stuff from Bohler, 0296813100, this stuff was advised to me by a chassis builder, as it machines better than other grades BUT is not weldable. Also obviously it is tough and hard wearing as your lathe will find out the hard way lol.
Approx $86 delivered 1.5m X 32mm i think

Hey Matt if youre going to do it and if you get a chance elongate the mounting holes so you can get more caster :spoton: This is what i wanted to do, may do later. Also an idea may be use tubular upper suspension with bushed rod end or spherical rod end, if you use rod ended upper arms be aware of the diameter of the bush/spherical bearing as it may be different in size compared to regular bushes, you wouldnt want to machine the shaft too much or too little, Anyway im sure you can work all that stuff out. :spoton:
Also i almost forgot, if you can be bothered doing the research perhaps find out if you can use titanium rod as the amount you would need wouldnt be over the top in price, just find out what grade is suitable, this would make it light weight and while youre there make up some titanium tube upper suspension arms :tease: but seriously if you can go for it.
These guys could probably help you :D http://www.aerospace...eriorFrame.html

thanks dood, yeah the service should be fun

Hey Mat how did you go with the materials. If there are any mechanical engineers on the forum some info on titanium would be great relating to making suspension cross shafts :D

G'day Bart,

I have a length of 4340 on order - should be ready for me to pickup Thursday.

I found the local Bohler's - it is only a couple of suburbs from my place.

I was thinking of doing some Ti bits but it is a lot more work and $$.

I have all the balljoint flanges already to make my tubular arms and they are mild steel.

I'll post a pic later of my new top control arm bushes and my balljoints as well.

I think I will make the cross bars almost identical to yours, I am just going to machine the inner shoulders a couple of mm closer together for my new bushes.

Keep up the good work - I always keep an eye on your projects.

M@

Thanks guys, as usual you have really nice things to say.
The tank basically cost around 800, not including the hose or pumps/filter.

just to show you a little more detail of the lids. They have a gasket also. These lids are to enable me to put some foam in.

My NPT threading taps and dies arrived the other day so i took the oportunity to thread and slightly reroute the oil system/oil filter. Had to tap into the oil presure line. I removed the welsh plug, drilled and taped it and used a 1/2 inch NPT fitting with a -8 end and a Y fitting to go to the 2 turbos.

Picked up my puppies today
Better known as GT3076R's, I think they flow 500hp each? Round about that anyway. Got to thank Jap Xu1 for his advice on these.

Doors are back on, the car is looking more complete, but rough however its unfortunate i couldnt sand blast the whole car and do a full resto as first intended as the aim now is to finish it to the point of rego and engineer. This means there will be a phase 3 rebuild down the track, probably in a few years time maybe sooner

Exhaust housing size is 0.63, basically as Jap Xu1 advised this motor is like 2 SR20s joined together and an SR20 would basically use this size turbo.

All this work in what seems to be only a smallish garage. Well done so far, top effort.

I need to stop making excuses and get into my torana again.

Thanks guys, yes the garage is a little narrow but length wise it approx 15m. One day ill build a barn out back just cant tell the wife about it. she wont notice it anyway hehehe
The fuel tank was welded by Japxu1, i couldnt have done it without his expert tig welding skills, it just couldnt have happened without him :spoton:
I might do some work on it today, being christmas eve i have the urge to winde down but have to push on.
Brake and clutch master reservoir are mounted in position, I havent clamped the bottles on properly yet but theyre almost ready to fill with fluid.

Love the remote booster set up!

You might also need a couple of boat anchors and 20 ft of roof to pull it up!

That thing is going to fly!

It puts new meaning the the word "Torana"

good luck with the project Bart!

Thanks guys, yeah it should go alright, unfortunately the injectors dont flow enough for much over 450hp, which is no where near the motor/turbo's potential, so i have to limit the boost to approx 6 or 7 psi which is quite pathetic but in time with bigger injectors i will boost it to maybe 12psi or so then some real numbers will come out of it, approx 700hp im guessing.
Come to think of it the 400 odd hp will be plenty as i have no chassis strengthening on this thing so the lack of hp would actually be a positive as i dont want to f*ck the car up.
