I have recently purchased a 1975 LH SLR 5000 and have noticed in my travels on the net that there appears to be two different types of odometre displays on LH/LX model Toranas. The car I have bought has a 5 digit display but I have seen some that are 6 digit displays. Does anyone know when the odometres changed from 5 to 6 digits? Is the 5 digit display correct for my year and model? A long shot here but is it possible to tell how many times the 5 digit odometres have been around the clock? Thanks for your help.

I have just joined the forum as a member but have been looking as a guest for quite a while. If this post work ok I will try and put some picture on the projects page.
P.S. Cheers dattoman for the how to page for pictures. If the post does not work out correctly feel free to tell me where I went wrong!

Well we can't see it at that size, but anyway I know exactly what you're talking about.

My LX SL Cluster has six digits. My LX SL/R cluster has six digits, my LH SL/R cluster has five digits. As far as I know there are only three SL/R Clusters made.

*Early LH SLR - five digits, white needle, MPH+KPH
*Late LH SLR - five digits, white needle, KPH - yours
*LX SLR/SS - six digits, yellow needle, KPH

The first one is pretty rare (not particularly popular though), cluttered looking and was only availible for a few months
The second was from late '74 to the last LH SLR/L34 made.
The third was on all LXs (except possibly that "prototype A9X" thing in another thread, but we won't go there now)

Therefore, yours is correct for your car AFAIK. If there was a six digit LH setup ever made, I can't say I've ever seen it.
There is no way of finding out how many times it's gone around. You just get a new car every hundred thousand k's :spoton:

And last but not least, welcome to the forums, where insanity is regularity!

There are the other speedo's where the Mph and Kmh are on both on the speedo face (one scale inside the other one). On late LX's and A9X's there was a park brake light built into the speedo...

interesting, never come across it before but i do notice thats not an SLR speedo, maybe the SLR ones didn't go to 6 digits? btw there are 4 different SLR speedos, ealry and late LH and early and late LX. The late LX also slightly changed the 4 instruments and the lettering is ever so slightly different.

G'day REDA9X are you saying that the speedo pictured is not from an SLR? If so can you tell me how it is different? The build date on the car is Feb 1975.

Yes I can now see what your all talking about. I was a bit quick to post the other day and the picture of the other speedo had not loaded. Thanks for all your help, makes me feel a little easier about the purchase.
