You can't see the fun in making 1000 HP?

I'd have a giggle for five minutes I guess, though I dislike turbos and find big ones especially unpleasant. But you raise an interesting point - I don't think the numbers matter at all when it comes to having fun. When I look back at all the cars and bikes I've had over the years I think the car I had the most fun in was a Mini with maybe 70hp. As for bikes I'm sure I've had more fun on 125 two stroke MXers with <30hp than I've had on 100hp+ sportsbikes. My young bloke just bought a 125 Aprilia road bike that makes me grin like an idiot, it's insanely good fun and I enjoy it more than any GSXR...

And as for the satisfaction of building something that could have been done by any pimply faced kid with a credit card and a KMart tool kit, it'd be a big fat zero.

I think the most fun I had on a bike was a little 80 cc dirt bike, simply because I could throw it around so easy and it didn't hurt too much if it landed on me.

I agree with johno ,I get my kicks making things go fast that weren't designed to do it.Ihave a soft spot for holden sixes because my first 5 cars had a holden 6 .But I can have just as much fun setting up a home built 105cc honda xr75 for a mates son to race against more modern bikes,it had enough power to lift the front wheel in second with my fat arse on it .With a 30 kg kid onboard it beat allcomers and was banned by the bike club ,now, thats fun ,but 1000hp from a 2jz does'nt do a thing for me.

Sounds like we're all on the same page. The sweet spot seems to be when you have enough power to have fun, but not so much that you can't spend a lot of time at full throttle. There's just something very satisfying about thrashing the living bejeezus out of something; to me it's much more fun than having a million horsepower that you can rarely use.

The point is not the valves, but getting the plug closer to the top.
Poor mans Hemi kinda.......there was a fella in Melb back in the day who built proper Hemi red6 heads.......never found one yet.....probably all got eaten in the sports sedans.......

I can't make sense of any of that. The plug is always going to be in the same position relative to the chamber roof no matter how much you machine the head. I guess if you angle milled a few mm from the port side (ie. the reverse to what is normally done) it would rock the plug towards the centre of the bore maybe a mm or so. But I think the improvement would be too small to measure and at any rate it certainly wouldn't make up for losing say 10cfm of high lift flow.

And if I was trying to improve the combustion in a Holden six head I certainly wouldn't be trying to emulate a hemi. A true hemi might breathe well but in the real world their combustion tends to be quite slow, usually significantly worse than the typical bathtub or wedge chamber. They're often bad enough that two plugs are necessary. For all its faults the little Holden head has a pretty good burn for the era.

There were all sorts of aftermarket heads available, some with hemi-ish chambers like the Krogdahl. But I honestly doubt whether many of them ever made any more power than the cream of todays factory headed engines.

Very decent flow there. Biga, 9 port or 12 port? Who ported it if you don't mind me asking? Also, do you know what size bore they used when flowing?

My apologies for the questions, but this is relevant to my current interests.

Hi 9 port closed chamber 161 head 46 cc in volume . All hard work and roughing in done by myself then Rod Rainford at Motorvator engines in VIC did all the tidying and flow work !!!! Cheers
