I saw this photo of Alan Grice's 73 Bathurst Torana, and it seem's that not even Gricey's Bathurst Torana was on the 150 list... ??
I'm sorry if you've already been over this topic... but does any body know the story??? is it a replacement engine from prior to Bathurst??

Dave probably rebuilt an earlier JP engine for the car. If the car was built in August 1973 I doubt it was one of the final build LJ XU-1's as these didn't start construction until late into August 1973

when i looked at this car to buy it about 7 years ago. its body didnt match its log book due to being reshelled. cant remember its engine that was fitted back then.

Engine number JP204266 would be consistent with an 8/72 built XU1.
Chassis number is obviously Adelaide but the wiper motor is a Preslite which were only used on Brisbane cars.

Most likely this car was an 8/72 XU1 upgraded to 1973 9/2E spec or better, as allowed by the CAMS rules.

What build date would be consistent with chassis no BLJ29127A, don't think it would be 8/72, would be a 73 build.

oops, was forgetting that Adelaide chassis numbers were a fair way behind Brisbane.
LOL, Maitland Performance Centre built the car to Cams Specs in August 1973 before GMH manufactured it in September 1973.
So gtr-xu1 is correct, it is a reshell.

why would a 73 car have a 72 motor ?? if they blew the original motor, why would'nt the replacement motor be from 73 ?? any ideas/guess's. why would the motor be 12 months older than the car ?, and would that motor have come out of a completed car ?............ Lot o questions I know.. just curious..

Perhaps it was an 8/72 car updated, but was then reshelled with a Sept 73 shell, as gtr-xu1 said it had been reshelled.

Origional car practiced for 1972 bathurst 500 didnt run grice then ran car for remainder of 1972 before it was updated to 1973 rules he base over apexed the car at amaroo park in 1973 ran it at king edward park hillclimb at mattara week in newcastle with the car slightly repaired and was then taken to dave mcleans garage and reshelled in to a new body for bathurst in 1973 used to see the car and progress being made every day on the way to school from memory was reshelled into a car that was initally painted red might explain older engine number in newer car cheers

Thinking about it a bit deeper - my data is sorted on the basis of completion date if new cars. The car in question wouldn't have been 'completed' on the assembly line. I am lead to believe that sometimes XU-1 chassis were manufactured in advance in batches. I guess that if one of these could have been sold as a replacement part and still be assembled and ready to race in August.

Yeah I get it's rebodied, just don't understand why you'd use a 12 month old motor for Bathurst, even if it was rebuilt, and I thought some member's on here would have known the car and it's background.. and i would have liked to here the story behind it.. that's all... I'm not trying to discredit car's on here, i'll leave that to other's Sorry if i'm boring you....

most races teams would have 2 or more motors , and you,ll probably find this car has had quite a few so anything is possible ..

My money is on engine No. JP204264 belongs to H245265 (my 1st choice), or H245255, or H245213

hey S pack , the guy who currently owns this car sourced the JP engine and an XU1 head for D.M to rebuild for the car while it was getting restored . not sure if that engine number is in the logbook or if logbook still exists , i will ask .

I remember this is the car that was in holden dealer livery when it was for sale by bowdens about 10 years ago for 55k . it was reshelled back in the glory days under grice ownership so it complies with current group c regs .
