Yeah just put it in a battery drill. Better if you can get your hands on a proper rotary tool. Either electric or air driven.

That colour is the final colour. I Wanted to go away from just black to lighten up the lower engine bay. No need for bright colors as the engine bay is already pretty bright.

After a top day at a local car show with ~20 torana's including some members on here, I decided it was time to take the tori off the road and get this upgrade happening lol.

The drop tank has been removed so that a surge tank can be built around the current pump, with another smaller pump feeding the tank. This is to stop it sucking air when going around right hand corners with <40litres of fuel.

Posted Image

The engine is just about ready to come out just need to remove some more wiring, tail shaft and bonnet.

Posted Image.

Some other work on the new motor,

Trial fitted the modified VS fuel rails with the 60lb injectors
Posted Image

Went through the wiring the other night and nutted out most of it, roughed it in on the engine.
SO much Air Con and auto trans shit that is not needed lol

Youngy,
I used a BA falcon fuel pump setup. The falcon pump has screw holes in the top where the commodore (VY) has a recessed locking system. They have a small factory swirl pot and would meet your needs. I just recessed the top using a 10mm plate, and tapped the holes accordingly to fit it in. The other thing is it is quiet.

I wish I took photo's during the build and before I installed it.

Cheers
Mark

Thanks for uploading mitch.

Mark, was this similar to what you used?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-FAIRLANE-FALCON-LTD-BA-BF-6CYL-V8-FUEL-PUMP-ASSY-/200567327220?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb2be89f4

Are you using the BA pump to feed the fuel rail?

Can you explain further how it works/ your setup?

Another shot from a while ago

Thanks mate

Yes, that's the type I used, accept mine is from XR6T/8.
There are three outlets.
Fuel out
Fuel return and
Breather.

LS1s have a single line to the fuel rail and bleeds off either at or after the fuel filter. I used GF822 AC Delco filter/pressure regulator as it was already setup prior to this fuel pump update.

However, the Falcon setup has a pressure regulator that is the same as the LS1 and could have done this conversion using a standard commodore fuel filter setup but it more time and more fittings. (Just check what specs a Supercharged V6 regulator is as I couldnt it on the net). You may need to run an external fuel pressure regulator.

Get some quick fittings to connect the fuel lines and I get the electrical plug from a wreck.

To make a seal I went to Clark rubber and bought a piece of fuel resistant rubber /neoprene and a tube of sealant. Tried the Ford original seal and it leaked.

Hope this helps
Mark

Thanks Mark.

So did you mount the above pump setup vertically?

Whats the purpose of the plastic thing surrounding the pump lol?

Does it have to sit on the bottom?

Your suggesting removing my current pump and only using the BA pump on its own?

I think the ford pump is similar to the VZ Commodore pump but not as tall. They are basically a EFI pump, lift pump and surge tank in one.

Thanks Andy. Exactly what I was after to explain the setup.

This setup would definitely be better than my current setup but I think it is still easier to modify my current setup by fitting a lift pump, pumping into my current swirl pot. I just have to block holes drilled in swirl pot so that fuel is retained.

Also Im considering running E85 fuel and I don't think a BA XR6 pump will be able to deliver the fuel required.

You can use a later model pump, as it the same setup with a mini swirl pot. You will have drill holes in the top plate if you use a commodore or FG falcon type. Maybe make a metal ring over the top to ensure it doesn't leak. I realise could have used the VY setup I had, but by the time I decided to go with a drop tank I had sold it. I'm not sure about depth of each model but the ford one worked out best for me.

Andy thats a great photo of the pump setup.

Also these pump setups can be squashed down from about 9" to 6" from memory. My tank was 8"-8.5" deep where it sat in the recess for clearance of the outlet connections.
Cheers

I looked at at using the VT-VX pump which is probably the same at the VZ.

When pushed down to the minimum height it was (240 mm/9.5") and needed 40 mm clearance above the pump.

My tank is only 160 mm deep.

The VP V6 engine is just about ready to come out, just another hours work to nut out a couple more wires before cutting. We have also nutted out most of the L67 loom, with the majority of the AC and Auto Trans wiring to be removed (not much left lol).

Yesterday I fitted the 600x300x76 (3" ends) front mount. I was very tight but just fitted, within 2mm lol.
