The engine conversion kit came the other day aswell and we have ordered the hoppers brake kit for the front end.

I have also wire brushed all the front end nearly lol and are going to spray it and fit the new brake kit and all new nothalene? bushes and pedders sway bar.

Anyone know the exact ratio of the diff??

Thanks Ryan

Ryan,

If you are respraying the front suspension components then I recommend you consider using the POR15 paint. Once dry POR15 is far more durable than normal paint. It is expensive and a pain to apply but the results are worth it. The finish you get with a brush is almost as good as spraying.

I also recommend POR15, painted my diff and pretty much whole underbody with it, altho i got my front end powdercoated so will see what holds up better... A tip if u use POR15 tho.. WEAR GLOVES and dont get it anywhere else on ya skin. ya got about 10 seconds to clean it off after that ya wearing it for bout a week... Good for tempory tatoo's actually ;)

Youngy , what did it cost your old man for the diff and haveing it fitted , would not be cheap , How much is it costing to get the front end and brakes done , just interested as it seems to be much like what the Rory and Nos have been doing and i wanted to compare against doing it yourself like them and getting some one else to do it , TREX

are the upper bushes on the diff mounts pushed into a tube welded to the upright or through the upright only?

I got the diff for free. But the conversion cost about $2000. Thats with boxed trailing arms, fabricated brackets that were TIG welded, fitting the sway bar, new disk rotors that had to be converted to 5 stud commodore and the axels converted to 5 stud.
He checked out the centre as well to see if it was ok.

We are doing up the front end our selves but the brake kit is from hoppers at $1350 and all new bushes and sway bars was $1200.

Not cheap i know but its will be worth it in the long run with everything done right.

Arrimar im not sure what you are asking but the conversioner had to modify the upper trailing arms with a step i think so that it would take the torana bushes.

UPDATE:
The front end is complete, sprayed in POR15, all new bushes, tierod ends, springs, balljoints, shockies and have since just fitted the hoppers kit. Went on easy and only had to file a couple of the spacers to make it sweet.

We should have the engine back next week to fit up with the conversion kit.

Will get some photos soon.

We are going to fillet weld all the seams on the chassi rails to increase the strength a little as well.

Has anyone done this before??
I have been advised to use 0.6mm Mig wire as it is better with lighter steel.

Car should be done by xmas. give or take. hehe

Thanks youngy

Mate that's really good progress your making on the car.

Glad your doing it right from the start, it will drive like a dream once you get it moving. With your new brakes and all that, make sure you run fresh new brake lines through out the car :spoton:

Aren't those calipers from the 330mm kit?

Didn't you get a 290mm kit?

You should've gotten braided lines =p.

Brakes...I want..

Nice stuff.

Its been a while since an up date.
But the torrie was had a bit of work done since the front end was finished.
We decided to get the chassi rails joined, seams stitch welded and controll arm mounts re inforced as the fabricator recommended.
Although it isn't necessary for the Hp im running now, we decided to get it done for any future up grades and also for the improved handling as im going to be doing a bit of track stuff hopefully.

Connector

Under side of the connector

Uppercontrol arms mounts. He strengthened because the top control arms are in tension and he was seen them rip out the floor in other cars.

Posted Image

The bottom control arm supporst wer also strengthend but not to the tops extent.

I have also been getting the underbody and inside of the car ready for painting in POR-15. Which is happening tommorrow.
I wirebrushed all the underbody, which was a shit of a job while the car was on the trailer.

Posted Image

The engine is ready and we are picking it up on monday.

The gearbox is being reconditioned as 2nd and 5th gears were stuffed.

The booster is at a brake place at the moment and we are getting a VT master cylinder with sender unit.

The brake guy had a spare line bender that he doesn't use so he has said we can borrow it to make all new lines for the car as the ones in the engine bay are quite ugly how they are run.

Will keep you updated.

Thanks Youngy
