Have had a few panel beater around to look at the car.

From there advice and the vibe I have recieved from this is that I have decided to strip the car back to bare metal as all rust will be found and they give a guarantee.

If paint stripping the panels and large sections but getting the engine bay, rear hatch surrounds and tricky bits sandblasted.

Very happy with the C Pillar joint.

Posted Image

RHS has had a dodgy repair and theres a bit of rust under it.

Any tips for paint stripping??

Cheers

Avoid the cold, pre heat if necessary and scratch up the surface first.
Also clean up with thinners and scotchbrite then wash with soapy water.

Youngy just read your post from the start not realising it was started around the same time last year until on the 5th page doh. Must say you've throughly researched each step along the way and not doing things by halves.
Well done and good luck with the rest of the project.

Hey guys,

The hatch's driveline has been completed at last,
Heres some photos while it was on the hoist out a Pro Fab.

VP V6>T5>3 inch tailshaft>Borg Warner R31 Skyline diff ( 3.9 : 1 ).

The T5 was too big for the orginal tunnel so the tunnel has been enlarged, best shot I could get as it was on the hoist and there was another LX underneath it.

Posted Image

We also got Profab to make us a smaller drop tank with inbuilt pump and straps.

Posted Image.

The engineer has aslso come and has a look at the chassi work and gave it all the OK :spoton: .

The hatch below mine is going to be a street/circuit car, sweet 18's.

Thanks Guys

Also heres a better shot of the tunnel mod to fit the T5,

What you guys think of the tank??

Its got the original sender unit and filler neck but has an inbuilt pump.

Now we have to pull all the running gear out of it and the tank and put it back on the trolleys for the blaster.

Cheers

Hi there,

You have done a crapload of work and it is looking great! Question though - how are you attaching the clutch cable to the pedal and also how are you handling it going thru the fire wall?

Cheers,
Red Hot Mike

hey,
thanks for the words.

As for the clutch cable we haven't looked into it in depth yet.

How did the original torana manuals have their clutch attached???

Suggestions.

cheers

Bugger - I was hoping for an easy answer for when I get there.

The original had a cable running down at around 30 deg (from vertical) thru the firewall via a hole next to the steering column (in the steering column flange that bolts to the firewall). It then attached to a cantilever system which pushed on the clutch lever poking out of the bell housing. I can't see it working for the T5 and am sure plenty of others have crossed this bridge before us.

Cheers,
Red Hot Mike

I can't see why this mod had to be done? There is another post showing a T5 behind a 308 & the only mod was extending the shifter hole beack a extra 10cm's for the rctangle peice the T5 shifter is mounted to.

It had to be done as the box didn't fit  .

Just how it all panned out with where the engine is mounted and what not.

He overcompensated on the tunnel a little but thats fine, its a neat job.

Hey John,

Yeah Im still unsure about the console, but I think im not gunna go for a console but just run 3 gauges mounted off the fan vents and a boot for the shifter with maybe a fire extinguisher between the seats.

I reckon that with the tunnel modded that much, you should run a console. The drop between the new section and the original tunnel would look weird, IMO.

Yeah I see what your saying tim, but i think im gunna run with the Competition type seats(i.e the wrap around ones you can buy from autobarn etc.) So you won't really notice it as they are wider than the torana ones.

Plus im looking at fitting an fire extinguisher between the seats.

I dropped off the doors, hatch, bonnet and apron to the blaster today he was extremely happy with the condition of the parts and said they are the best guards he has seen,

Hey guys,

Its been a while since i have posted much but the cars coming along nicely.

Its just about done out at the blaster, its taken longer because he has opened up anywhere that had the smalled amount of rust and made alterations so that it won't rust again such as redirecting water through the C pillars.

I swapped my original lowered pedders front springs for the grade lower(10mm lower) and have also fitted them.

I have brought a set of Mitsubishi FTO seats for it off ebay.

The car is off to the panel beater on tuesday.

Heres a shot of the car at the blaster,

Posted Image

Uni finishes this week so before xmas we have to get the engine painted and ready to go in and a few other bits and pieces.

I will get photos of the panel work done over the next couple of weeks.

Cheers
