Anyway I'm having trouble finding out what it is.
I can't find the vin number stamped on the car.. I don't know if its been removed or maybe I don't know where to look.
The car only has the 2 big tags no small skinny one. Did the lj's have them?
Here's te tag info:
Model. LJ82311
Body. 18170B
Trim. 1824 41E
Paint. 568 13138
Other tag says lj sedan 2 door
5/72
ALJ 04637B <vin number?
I didn't get the eng trans or box but ill grab them tomorrow.
Body is in good nick has had 2 floor pans but no rust/bog anywhere else. Paint is 9 years old but the car has never left the shed since it was done by a professional.
The bloke said it had gtr flutes from the factory but one guard has been replaced.
Also has all the gtr goodies with it. And it looks like all the parts are there. Maybe some small things missing (carpet locks nothing I can't get from rares)
What would be a ball park figgure she'd be worth and would I be able to get it back on the road in tas?
Any info/ input would be great.
Thanks guys!!

Any idea if I can get it rego'd without the skinny tag and no chassis no.?
I expected it to be a S coupe. She'll still make a good mock up with all the bells and whistles

The model number LJ82311 tells us it is an LJ Torana S 2 door, not a GTR. That is of course if that Body ID plate belongs to that car.
edit: ALJ04637B is the chassis number and should be stamped into the flatish part of the left hand wheelhouse panel adjacent to the heads of the crossmember mtg bolts.

in the old days, if u were running extractors they would go through the inner skirts, thus taking the chassis number when making a sizable hole,
as for what its worth its pretty hard without photos, im going off the way u have described it its worth around 7k to 10k, gtr interior complete, gtr steer wheel, gtr dash, gtr loom, steer colum 9 inch diff, etc, etc, etc, again photos will determin what this torana is worth,
my 2 bobs worth

Going to have another look today and take more photos today. The bloke says all parts are there but is there any hard to find bits that I should look for?

Hi
Those tags don't belong together.
The ADR is May '72 but he Body ID tag is Jan '73.
If the Body ID tag is correct then Chassis Number should be around BLJ182xxB
If the ADR tag is correct then the Body Number should be around 046xx-B to 047xx-B
Note that the car has the '73 notches on the inner guards.
Cheers

Whilst I believe you are correct the body plate doesn't belong to that car, that Body ID plate doesn't have the eng, trans, and R.R.Axle options codes on it so how can it be 1973 vintage?
The revised body plate was introduced into production in December 1972.
Note: If those moulding studs on the rear quarters (below the window opening) are the original electrofusion type studs then there is a chance the body shell is a GTR. No LJ Torana S had the stainless door belt mouldings as factory fitment, only GTR and XU1.
Cheers
Dave.

Can you please get pics of this part of the car inside the front wheel arches. Specifically the floor pan and the chassis rail & outrigger bolt hole.

The whole Body ID tag is not visible. The older tag looks nothing like the one posted. Do I have to post a pic of them side by side?

No, she's right Bazza, I see what you mean now, the other tag is covering the bottom of the body plate. I should have looked harder before opening my mouth and inserting my foot.
Cheers
Dave.

So the 2 tags I have don't match? Maybe they match with the gtr tag he has.
What's the significance of the outrigger hole s pack?

Ok thanks guys ill grab more photos.

It's not the hole that is significant it is a bracing piece that may or may not be there depending if it is a 1972 or 1973 body shell.
Indications I get from the pics you have posted so far is this Torana is an Adelaide build not Brisbane as the tags suggest but that is inconclusive.
Some pics inside the boot would also be helpful. Esp the passenger side boot floor where it meets the inner side panel. Make sure the boot mat (if fitted) is lifted up to see the metalwork.
Also, check the underside of the left wheelhouse, where the chassis number should be stamped to see if there is any sign of the raised letter stamping.
I'm just thinking the chassis number may have been filled over in the engine bay to conceal it so those tags could be used with the body shell.
BTW, a GTR VIN tag will never match with Torana S tags.

check where the seat belt holes on the quarters are, take a photo of it from the pillar back ,this will confirm what year the torana is, or
under the front door area floor section see if it has a reinforced box section on a 45% angle

ps if its cheap buy it

The 3 tags that come with it.
Hopefully one matches
Rad support
Chassis outside (hard to tell what it is with the bracing)
Inside (passenger)
Passenger front seat holes
Back seat
Back wheel arch seat mount
Boot
Boot
Chassis number location? Nothing there......
Trims
Passenger floor pan can see bolts for the chassis strengthening
