Hi guys, I have a LX Torana 253 4 speed which i have changed to full cable clutch setup (i.e bellhousing, fork). Put it all back together and clutch wont disengage, selects gears when not running but when running cant get anything. I have the proper cable and pedal. My question is, I still have the original pressure plate and thrust bearing from a rattrap setup which all worked fine in previous car before removal, Have tried commodore thrust bearing with the cable setup, is there any difference between pull type and push type pressure plates? Any help would be much appreciated as I have been working on it for the last 3 months and got nowhere, doing my head in.

no difference as far as I know, I have done the same conversion a couple of times and not had a problem
biggest head ache was getting the cable adjusted right, I used a commodore cable and had to make a spacer to fit where cable goes through the mounting point at the bellhousing
is there adjustment on the fork pivot?

Hi Limo
Yes there is adjustment at the bell housing. It has torana cable and uc pedal and tried commodore thrust bearing & adjusted fork pivot ball. The clutch plate seems to separate in the middle between the two plates but does not disengage from the fly wheel. The fly wheel has been machined. We do have a VH V8 clutch cable that we can try with commodore thrust bearing - do you think that would work?

Any chance you put the clutch plate in back to front ? (flat side facing gearbox)

has it been wet at all?
we used to have trouble with clutches in boats, they would get wet and "rust/stick" to the fly wheel,
had same problems in cars as well
if so you can put it in gear, foot on clutch pedal and get some one to rock the car, motor off
rough way is to use starter motor to jar it

Hi guys
In response to above questions.
V6 Torana - no had the clutch off today & it is definitely not the wrong way round
Limo - No, definitely has not been wet - has been fitted to car for 12 months but have never had going.
Any other suggestions - should I try commodore cable? If I could take pics of clutch & pedal would that help? Can post up tomorrow night if need be.
Cheers Loui

Exactly which clutch pedal are you using ?
6 & V8 pull-fork pedals are different & GM-H didn't built a V8 Torana with a pull fork. The only pull-fork clutch pedals from the factory are 4 & 6 UC, 4/6 & V8 Commodore & 6 & V8 HZ/WB.
What you need is one of the weld-on pieces off ebay. How else are you going to get the correct pull travel dimension ?

Your problem is the UC clutch pedal is set up for a 6cyl not a V8.
Read this thread. Esp post #6 should help solve your problem.

Not sure if this is relative, but my LX has a supra 5 speed and after putting the motor and box in i had the same issue after it was working in the donor car fine.
Turned out to be some bent prongs on the pressure plate or some shit? Pressure plate replacement and clutch adjustment. All good.
