Fingers crossed then. Would you run a manifold on it for carby? Or go with the injection?

Cleaned up the Gilmar drive
Painted the Block and fitted the HZ sump
Also did the headers in hi temp paint
Engine coming out:
I'm cleaning the whole front end at the moment and I might paint the firewall, it is really clean already but I think it might look funny if I paint the inner guards and the firewall paint still looks a bit old.
that's all for the moment

Engine looks sweet. I like how you've run the leads.

I pressure washed the chassis rails and gave them a quick scuff up with the wire wheel then just squirted them in black enamel. you can see I haven't bothered with the suspension yet I kinda just sprayed around it. That will all be coming off for some tlc later...
sat the engine in place but I still need to sort out the trans cross member. should have that sorted soon.

Also been playing around with the trans crossmember.
I was thinking of just getting a CRS unit but when I had a bit of a look at the old trimatic one i got crazy ideas:
Looks like a bought one!!
I know welding a crossmember is frowned upon by engineers/RWC mechs but its cheap (had metal sitting around) and will look like a factory unit so nobody will notice hopefully.
Its 3mm plate so its damn strong, probably stronger than it was before!!

The trimatic crossmember I think is too wide for that, by the time the z bar bit hangs off the back of it, the front edge will be hitting the pan on the tranny I reckon.
I was considering buying a t400 statesman x member that the wrecker had but he wanted $200 for it!!
I thought I'd try this first... if I have any drama with it then at least it has only cost me time to knock it up...

I've been working on getting the engine running mostly. I got a Facet lift pump and a VL Commodore High Pressure Pump, Also went to the self serve wreckers and cut out a relay/ruse box from a VS Commodore.
Initially I went about wiring up the engine and relay box in a temporary fashion, There were wires all over the place and it was very messy. But my theory was to fire the engine and make sure everythin worked before I waste any time making the wiring tidy.
I didn't want to make it all neat only to rip it apart if I ran into any issues... Which I did...
Same went for the Fuel pump mounting, I just kind of plumbed it all up and left the pump hanging under the tank, now I have it running I will sort out mounting brackets and fit properly.
So when I initially tried starting it I had spark and fuel, after fiddling around checking fuel pressure and replacing the PCM computer I finally Learned that I needed a re-flashed Memcal with the security program removed.
Finally I ordered a performance memcal with no vats from Ebay and the thing started at last!
It's just running straight out the extractors and not got a radiator at the moment so I can only run it for a few seconds, but it sounds tough without an exhaust, wish I could leave it like that! Mind you it will sound really nice with mufflers when I get to that stage.
So now that is runs I've neatened up the wiring and mocked up the battery and Relay box where I want it. I still need to fab a proper battery tray and bracket but it will basically sit as pictured.
I ran most of the wiring out of sight so it should look pretty neat.
Next on the list is get the thing moving. I would like to be able to shift the car around under it's own power, so for the moment I'll weld up the old trimatic tailshaft as a temporary unit and get hold of a nice Ebay shiny radiator. That should be enough so I can drive it in and out of the garage easily. Then I can start making a mess with more bodywork again.

Ain't it a great feeling to get something accomplished??? Just one thing at a time and it'll all get done in the end.
Oh, you have my wheels! I need to go up in diameter within three years cause the 235/60/14's are VERY thin on the ground (just fitted four new ones and usually get three years outra them), gunna pick up exactly those rims from Summit... don't tell the missus!

There are heaps of different brands of new 235 X 60 X 14's on ebay last time I looked for around $130 each.

thanks guys! I'm setting a goal to get all the bodywork done in the next 2-3 months, I'd like to be spraying colour on the car this side of xmas before it gets too hot!
I'd love to get a nice 28-30 degree spring day, spray the car in the shed then puch her out into the sunshine to dry!

I had to replace some rusty sill a coupla weeks ago... over winter. Mrs thought her old hairdrier was rooted so bought a new one, I 'salvaged' the old one and it works fine, and perfect for lousy day painting. Fishoilene inside and PA10 outside will keep it like new for years to come.
