Okay, thanks for the info everyone.

The reason for returning the fuel to the surge tank and not the main tank is that if the 044 pumps MORE fuel than the Holley black, the surge tank will eventually run dry.

The lift pump is always returned to the main tank, and the main pump always returns to the surge tank. As for the lift pump working harder, the lift pump will always be free flowed back to the main tank, so is not working into a pressure head, it is unloaded, will run quieter, and will have a longer life expectancy.

The filter to protect the Injectors from debris and rubbish should be 10 micron, and the 100 or 80 micron before the lift pump if possible, or at least before the surge tank, as mentioned earlier.

The Cater Gold works great as a lift pump, and will lift fuel easily, but they can be a little noisy, but compared to a Holley pump are like a church mouse, I'd like to find a Carter Gold shaped and sized pump that is a gerotor style pump, LOTS quieter.

The holley black flows around 530 lph, the 044, probably around 300 lph I believe, but I do see the reasoning behind it and will plumb it into the surge tank rather than the main tank.

Im fairly certain the engine builder specifically didnt want a filter before the lift pump, but I will pass on your info and see what he says back.

Will look into the carter gold, thanks.

Depending on thr type of pump, some typess of pump will pump crap ok.

Most dont.

Fuel pumps would fall into the later category.

With your filters, always coarser to finer in the direction of flow.

If the finer one is first, should be nothing left for the coarser one to do.

Unbelievable project.

Have enjoyed reading the build.

same with Drinking Water Filtering, coarse first, finer last, other wise the fine filter will block up straight away. Dave I

Got the filter sorted! Sent the engine man and email and he apologised and said he pressed 1 too many zero's on it! lol

Should be 80 micron after the lift pump and 10 micron after the pressure pump! :)

So I got back from the girlfriends place late the other night, and mum tells me that dads got the shits. Great I say, what for this time? "He's tripped over and damaged your boot off the torana"

...

...

Shit.

Anyway, went down the shed to check it out, hes bumped it and its chipped the edge, not sure how we are going to fix it, he hasn't even told me about it yet.

It probably doesn't look like much to most people, but it will take a fair bit of work to fix.

You could probably fix that without painting the whole lid, fortunately it's on the edge at the back.

Not sure if we can because it has a white basecoat, colour will probably be different if we try and blend it

We had to buy 1 litre extra to paint the top side of the bonnet, we ran out (still havent done it). So yeah, we should have enough.

Ryan make sure you have a heaps of leftover paint. I ran out and now have two LJ mirror holes in my drivers side door and no extra paint. (Yes I didn't realize until we were putting car together) We thought we had heaps initially however after having to redo blackouts coz they were wrong, then re do boot because car slipped on trailer we have nothing left. Now have issue of having to try and match paint. Car is now 2 years finished and I still can't bring myself to try and fix holes. So whenever I take car anywhere people tell me how much they love it followed by 'So what are these two holes in the driver side door'??

Why cant you just buy more Mediterranean blue (thats the colour right?) from the same brand/company? Afraid that it wont be the same?

It actually isn't an off the shelf mix in two pac. My basic understanding is in acrylic it is different however I stand corrected. When I went to paint shop locally they couldn't even find the color Mediterranean Blue on the system. However I also believe that if you do have the color code it is still always difficult to match color especially with metallic paints. Maybe someone more knowledgeable here on forum can tell us.

Ahh yes of course, makes sense. My colour isn't a custom mix. Off the shelf colour through House of Kolor, but still no guarantee to be exactly the same I guess.

Looks like something you would even notice as its on the back edge. Could you fill the hole, mask and paint only the edge? Without going near the surface of the lid?

What a bummer, the small things are always the hardest to fix, i dont think i could ever build a show car, ive already got more paint chips than you can poke a stick at.

Probably not, will have to talk to dad and see what he says.

You will most likely wind up with more damage then a small chip during your attendance at Summernats. Id be saving your paint until afterwards. Ive had some nasty stone chips over the years which my panel beater has touched up and you wouldnt pick where they are if you tried.

Will have a rope set-up, 17 bodyguards and snipers in the rooftops. Should be safe.

Gave king springs a call today about my rear springs. Wanted 1 inch lower (has lows at the moment), they dont make super lows, but he said send them up and he will "reset them". Should look slightly less like a hilux after this :)
