Yeah i remember ultrablueA9x. Certainly a sweet stance!

 

It would be hard task to squeeze an exhaust past those massive rear boots!

 

Those flares look like they have had some work done to them. I spent many hours ringing around the country trying to find flares to accommodate large front wheels but came up empty.  Most people seemed to just modify the originals like i have been.

 

Bomber - yes, they do come off a little flat. I will have a look at it when im getting the finish done.

I didn't have any experience in fiberglass prior to doing this. My buddy that is giving me a hand with them mentioned making molds of them once their finished. May look into it down the track.

Interesting thread. Instantly made me think of Glenn - does anyone else remember Glenn's A9X from quite a few years ago? (ultrabluea9x). Not sure if he's still around the forums these days, but his sedan was just about the fattest Torana (sedan) I've ever seen and had the pleasure of cruising with. I probably still rate LITRE8 as my all time favourite Torana, but jeez Glenn's A9X comes close. There's something about the colour, the stance, the fat wheels filling out the flares, and the colour contrast of the Simmons.... what a beautiful combination....

 

15 x 10's front, and stuff the 10's.... we're talking 15 x 12's on the ass. Not bad for a sedan! He was running Yokohoma's all round. 345/40x15's up back, and I can't remember front sizes, but fairly sure they would be the common 285/40x15. I even recall Glenn telling me it drove like a dream and wasn't overly heavy in the steering.... it was pure car porn watching it on the road. Best wheel/tyre combo I've ever seen on a Torana full stop.

This was back when I only had 8.5" wide Convo's on the rear of mine with 265/50x15's... makes them look like cheese-cutters. Mine sits a tonne lower, but with 345's, you don't need low to have a mean stance. My 10's look much better these days, but still not a bar on those sweet 12's...

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another rear comparison - this hatch runs 8's on the rear I think. Makes them look half the size....

Very sad to hear Glenn's car doesn't have the 15x12"s any more :(

I don't want to sound like too much of a bigot, but the best thing for that car would be to keep it exactly as it was. Certainly the most inspiring car I've been in.

It is back on stock rims. I should have taken some pictures of it. I fixed a couple of things up for the guy and a mate did some paint touch ups.

Time goes fast.

 

I have them %80 finished. I splashed some color on them and have been driving it around a fair bit as of late.

They clear fine on the street but the track is a lot different to street cruising so I want to get some track time in before i finish them to make sure they don't scrub.

I went earlier this year but had some oil issues so didn't get to push her to the max. 

 

My new business has taken up a lot of my time the last 2 years but things are comfortable now and im starting to spend some more time working on the Torry. Its amazing how much you miss just spending all day working on your pride and joy. 

 

Early in the new year, once im happy with the clearance i will be looking for someone to finish them off as im not that confident at final paint. 

 

Next time im out i will put some photos up.

Evan.. Thought you may be interested. These are 15x91/2 Hotwires with a 51/2 inch outer backspace.. 285 40 15 yoko's.. Works with the A9X style front end.. It clears everything but tight.. Looks like I will do the same thing which means the tyres can be rotated front to back for a better tread wear & power steer to boot..

The only thing better than a wide tyre rear end, is a front that matches.

 

The extra half inch certainly makes a difference. They do look tight in there. Does it full lock?

 

I have done a few KM's on the new tyres and i have to say that wide front tyres totally changes how the car handles.  It tramlines a fair bit so if there is any slop in the steering it will be noticed. It also handles completely different in a slide.  The front wheels actually steer and have had to get used to it. Not a bad thing but just not what i usually expected.

The wheel was mounted on Paul's car as I still have the Torana stub & stud pattern..From lock to lock it clears all but may have to trim a little off the inside lips on the flares. I do have the brake ducts on my car so the end of them will need a little trim as well.. Overall, it will work.. The main reason for doing this was I wanted to upgrade to HQ vented discs, have the same style tyre front & rear & stick with the Hotwires.. When I got the original 15" wheels, the rears were 10" & the fronts were 91/2" wide.. Front tyre selection for 15x8 rims (if you can find these rims) are mainly 225 50 these days which didn't appeal to me nor the new Neals Wheel copies.. So a little win to keep it old school..
