Hi Guys,

i have just wired up my 6AL / blaster 2 coil and msd dizzy to my 355 donk.

The problem im having is it did fire and ran for a bit and when i tried to turn it off

it kept running. WHY?????????

to stop engine i went to move the dizzy to throw out timing to stall motor and it just stopped dead!!!

Now i have no spark and cant for the life of me fiqure out why, i have checked wiring and is all good as it did run and it is getting power to the 6AL box but not coming out of 6AL box.

Any ideas guys?? did i stuff up somewere or could the msd box be burned out?

its all brand new and only got used for 5 min before stopping.

any help would be greatly apreciated :)

It probably kept running due to residual voltage from alternator warning light.

See description in your manual here http://www.msdigniti...?id=15032386116

can you tell me the exact battery voltage?

It kept running? is the 6al wired to constant power? wheres the thinner red wire going to?

I dont think power comes out of the box until car is running., ie there wont be voltage at the coil.

Have you done the spark test ( by shorting the wires going to dizzy to see if the 6al is working)

do you have spark at all?

Iv just put billet dizzy and 6al2 and blaster2 coil in my 350sbc and had troubles getting it going, sorted now, and may be able to help you

Yep, pretty common for the car to keep running if there is no diode fitted on the CHG wire from the Alternator back to the IGN switch. Thats an easy fix.

thanks guys,

Horse088 i dont know what you mean exact battery voltage? its a brand new 12v car battery.

yeah it kept running, big red wire goes to battery and little red is to my yellow ignition wire.

yeah i did the spark test from the msd site for the magnetic pickup wire coming from box and no spark.

hanra i need to fit a diode to the charge wire & ignition??

Just to the CHG/IND/idiot light wire to the Alternator (not the main B+ CHG wire), Cathode facing the Alt, Anode facing the IGN switch. That will stop it from running on after you turn the key off.

It probably kept running due to residual voltage from alternator warning light.

Whats the voltage at the battery?

I had a problem where my battery didnt have enough voltage, then under cranking it dropped to 5 volts, which wasnt enough to power the 6al2.

your yellow wire may not work. Sometime this wire on cranking drops to zero volts. therefore turning off the box.

il ask my auto sparky where he hooked mine up to.

Don't want to sound rude, but why don't people read their manuals ???    :banghead:

Brad, not having a go mate, just talking in general.

When you spun your dizzy to kill the engine, you may have pulled the plug to the dizzy out (two pin plug that goes to MSD box). The plug can be a bit loose.

If it was running, I doubt it is dead now.

Start at the beginning, Check you have 12v at the battery with a multimeter.

Check there is +12v to big red wire.

Check your earth is good. Now check it again !

Check there is +12v to the thin red wire with Ign on.

With Ign on, check for spark show in the link I supplied before.

when you said you turned the dissy back for less advance to stall it..did then put it back in the previous spot to start it again..just a thought?

Thanks heaps guys for your replies and soo sorry for being late to get back forum. Iv been away for work and couldn't get to a pc.
I got it all sorted today and it turned out to be a faulty MSD box and timing was slightly out.
I organized for a sparky to come out today and I also borrowed 2 boxes from mates, one MSD and the other a Summit one an both worked great, when we hooked up my other box it had nothing.
For some reason power was going in box and not coming out, sparky couldn't tell me why! We checked all earths, voltage and connections and everything was good.
We can't explain why but when I turned the dizzy something happened to the box and power could no longer get through, I have now replaced MSD box with the newer version of the 6al box and I'm going to send my faulty box away to find out what happened.
Also since installing the new box I no longer have the engine running on after turning the key off, it's all working great.

Again guys sorry for the late reply and thanks for the tips as I did use your tips and I learnt a lot about MSD systems now
