I was looking at a stock 6 oil pump today, alongside a JP Hi-vol pump, and I couldn't notice any real difference in the internals?

it was just visually - I didn't take measurements or anything, but I just wondereing what makes it pump the higher volume?

Correct, I fell for that years ago.

I couldn't see any difference because the gears are the same diameter, it's not obvious that they are wider (longer) unless you dismantle it.
