Yeah Craig, there were more than the number that was bandied about for years. The first GMP&A race shell was an L34 built for Bob Forbes.

As far as A9X's were concerned...

33 hatch rolling bodies

11 hatch bare shells

7 sedan rolling bodies

4 sedan bare shells

Then there were the cars built up by the teams with similar modifications.   Then there were the GMP&A shells built to replace standard ones.  I always found it amazing just how much trouble Alan Grice had to find a shell in 1979, when over the next ten years "spare" shells seemed to be turning up everywhere.

Thanks for clarifying Laurie.

As usual with these kinds of numbers, people will pick and choose what fits their agenda at the time and those who don't know the full story accept what they are told.

I'll be careful what I say in the video, don't want to be spreading misinformation.

What's the video and where will we see it?

This one was a spare HDT shell that was just lying around with a funny story to go with it. Get in contact with its owner if you need to speak to an expert on the GMP&A cars.

Video should be out tomorrow (Sunday), channel link is in my signature.

There is already one there about the top 10 of the Unreil auction, the next one focuses on the Toranas....

Yeah as soon as I read it  those numbers felt familiar. I used to spend every day on the forum but not so much anymore.

Gricey ended up buying 2 built cars, and selected the better one after testing them.

His workshop went through a few of them, and his paint guy was a master with bog as well.

The one he ended up racing into 1980 is undergoing restoration and will surface in original Forbes Bartlett livery when completed.

Cheers

Rob

Yep, know the car, assisted the former owner to identify the car. It wasn't raced much, but it was kitted out with the good gear of the time.

Let’s not also forget why this grub was removed from the forum…. But unfortunately is back out in society!

Paint job was completed some time ago Rob.  1st GMP&A racing A9X built, and the last one to win a Group C race. (Wanneroo 1980)

That car is actually a replica, not the real deal.

Ah, well there you go.  Replica or is someone trying to invent another ex racer? I know there were misgivings over the identity of the red one from some people, but personally I think it is the real deal.

The red one is the real deal.

It is the Forbes Bartlett car.

Also the car in my profile pic.

I bought it of CMR as a bare crashed shell and later sold it to the current owner.

Aaron Noonan featured it in a magazine a while back.

In his words during discussions with him, it is one of the easiest cars to track its provenance.

Few owners along with verifiable information at each stage.

Cheers

I think it is still under resto.

Havent talked to him for a while.

I think he was hoping to have it completed sometime early this year.

Reckon he would be happy to see anything related to it.

He has had lots of negative views before he got in touch with me.

Interestingly though, he said Ron Missen looked at it when he was racing it as a Sports Sedan and told him he had the real deal.

Think Ron would know what he was talking about.

But once we chatted, and Aaron got involved, apart from repairs etc etc etc, it is definitely the real deal, with ownership proven through its history.

Cheers

Rob
