Hi there,
Can any one send me pics on the double knuckle set up. I'm just about to do this to my Lj. And has anyone had trouble with castle headers hitting the floor pan on the left hand side. If so what do you suggest to do.
Cheers

Hello,

Depends what engine mounts you use HQ engine sits low HK T G engine sits higher . Maybe the floor needs mods with the hammer or rework the bottom pipe work to clear.

This is what ive done there are other ways!!!!! this is still work in progess

Use a LH inner shaft this puts the first universal joint past the block so you wont need to push the column over as far, You"ll need to use some sort of suporting bearing (LH streeing shaft bearing ) at the base i machined up a bearing retainer or recess the original supporting bush up to you.

Moved base over about 15mm to the right. make up a plate to cover all the uglyness and bolt it in place.

I also moved the upper column mount over about 8mm to the right. Make some appropriate size washers to get the spacing right. Welded some plates in place of the original alloy spacers and slotted them so the column could still collapse in an accident. The column ended up sitting up against the R/H side of the lower switch panel.

As for the cross member i just scalloped it out to provide clearance for the lower steering universal

Like i said this worked from me others have different methods you just need to be confident in the end result its your neck!!!

The Hurricane extractors fitted with good clearance and i could see no issues.

Hi bjs,
Cheers for the info and pics. I see you got a t5 in your car. Did you use a castlemain rod shop xmember and if so what gearbox mount did you use.
Cheers again

Hi bjs,
I made my own xmember too using a xa xb xmember. Now that I'm using castle header the hit every where. I rang them up and they told me it's because I'm not using a castlemain rod shop xmember so I brought one and now my gearbox mount doesn't fit the holes in the wrong place. Now I need to get another mount and cut up the extractor. S**t happens
Cheers Tony
