Yeah it is my first time and I didn't realise the steering was like that till I drove it to the inspection.

Last time I drove it it seemed fine but that was quite a while ago now.

And with the lights I thought the indicator was ok and didn't think to check the plate light.

I have fixed a lot of other bits and pieces that I knew would be checked, and decided to take it over and find out what else was needed.

Pulled the diff out this morning, it's a 3.55 open diff

Cleaned all the crap off and decided it could use a coat of paint.

Had a look around the shed and all I could find was white, black, primer or this lol

Attached File  image.jpg   242.04K   2 downloads

It's not as bright as in the picture but I'm kinda glad it will be hidden.

Wifey wanted to go to Bunnings so I grabbed some fire engine red in case I get the urge to paint anything else lol

Can't have everything green plus that's a $40 can so don't want to use too much

What method did you use to get the axles out?
Did you do it the way I suggested?

Only asking cause it may help others down the track. Little tricks and thinking outside the square can be great when needed

No one's gonna see it under there anyway lol.

If anyone does see it i'll have bigger issues.

Yeah there was sh!tloads on there but only a few little bits of gasket.

I'm not sure if it was leaking or had been before the blue went on, but I pulled it to make sure it doesn't anymore, last thing I want is to miss out on rego because I couldn't be bothered doing something so simple.

You can see here why my gearbox was leaking

Straight out the back and evenly distributed all over the underside of the car.

I put the fire engine red to good use

Do these shafts have a front and back?

I realised after I pulled the ends off I can't tell the difference lol.

Yeah I didn't really think that through lol.

Might have to come back out and go black but it can stay green for a while.

Diff is back in and I got my seatbelt back already, very happy with it assuming it fits ok.

Had to glue the cap in my yoke because it is a perfect fit, I'll test it doesn't leak and keep an eye on it.

Would have preferred it if I could have chucked it in the freezer and let it fit tight but the next size up was 10mm bigger so not much choice.

So the dome welch plug was a smidgen too large to push into the recess in the yoke?

No Dave, it is the perfect size, which means it won't stay in by itself.

I'm hoping Tarzan's grip will do the job.

Might need some ultra blue or something as well but we'll see.

Craig, the idea behind the dome welch plug is you insert it into the recess then tap it with a hammer to flatten the dome slightly, as you do this the welch plug expands out and locks into the recess. For this to work the dome welch plug must be a neat fit in the recess.

Where would I be without you guys, honestly.

I had thought of doing that but didn't want to make it unuseable by over whacking it.

I'll give it a belt tonight.

Thanks once again.

Worked a treat guys, thanks very much.

For the record, tarzans grip worked but not too well and could be knocked out easily.

Diff is back in, fluid topped up and no drips yet, fingers crossed.

Surprising myself with how much I have got done, at first I thought I was no chance but now I'm quietly confident I'll get there.

I have to add a couple of extra things that I'll be doing at the same time.

I may as well replace some bits that need it while I'm in there.

19. Replace Ball Joints

20. Install taller front springs to match rear(Kings 1" lowering springs)

21. Replace rear brake cylinders

22. Paint Diff and Drive Shaft in colours that will clash

Picking up a heap of parts from my favorite admin bloke tomorrow, thanks again Datto, busy all weekend though so there won't be much more to cross off unfortunately.
