Did you ask him Craig what he would charge you to fix the problem? Sometimes it worth throwing some extra cash their way to fix the problem and get the rwc.

I remember having a self centreing problem.
Steering was a bit loose so removed shims from rack.
Took too many out and it was heavy. Put one back in and all was good.

Its at a govvy run inspection centre, all they do is check and point out what's wrong.
Bit different to how other states do it although we can go to registered mechanics now, might be my next stop.
you've come a long way, mate. I feel as though i'll have the same problems trying to rego mine!
Yeah I have come a long way, but still not there.
You'll be right.

You mean similar to what Dave was talking about where the shaft maybe out of alignment?
Definitely worth looking at.
Thanks guys.
After all this I have one car that drives great that I'm not allowed to drive, and one that is in pieces that I can lol.

If you have a turn of lock while you are on the move, then surely it should self centre when you let go of the wheel? Especially with wide rubber. If you jack up the front of the car you should be able to put one finger in the steering wheel and go from lock to lock without any resistance. And if that is the case you could rule out any problems with the column and start looking at the front end again.

Just another thought.
How are the uni joints on the shaft?
Theyu arent binding under load by any chance?
Other than that self centreing is a part of the wheel alignment

Rob, the HB, LC,LJ, TA don't use uni joints on the steering shaft, they use a flexible rubber coupling. Craig's LC has an aftermarket red Urethane coupling which is more than likely stiffer than a rubber coupling.

pump the front tyres up till they almost explode , when I got the ute blueslipped, he said it was abit heavy to steer, just told him he has been driving cars with powersteering for to long,
great effort though, im sure there will be plates on it soon

Yes it does thats how you adjust the angle of the coloumn
undo the bolt push it a little further up then take it for a drive see if that makes a difference
The positioning of that wedge will affect the straightness of the steering column outer jacket and to a much lesser extent the angle of the steering shaft within the column.

Hey Craig... how goes it mate? Are you getting through it all ok?
Mate... I just went through the whole license thing with my imported mini I just finished.... I went to the local servo here in Pinjarra who is a authorised inspection station.... not saying to come here (wink wink) but here you will find a list of approved inspectors... both metro and REGIONAL (wink wink)
http://www.transport...le-examined.asp
I ended up meeting an amazing guy at the Welshpool pits who helped me out heaps but he is a mad mini guy... Keep at it mate... and as you have done... just ask...
Cheers

Cheers Macca, I did try to tell him that's how they were and everything's new and it's had a wheel alignment and it's a million times better but I think that just made him more determined to fail me.

I get that it will change the angle of the shaft but I'm not getting how that will help
Once I play with it it will probably make more sense though.

Yeah it's all done, just the heavy steering to fix.
I had planned to go to a non DOT site but in order to get my sh1t together I booked it online and you can only do that for DOT testing centres.
After the initial inspection and the guy saying good luck the way he did it became a bit of an incentive to get it back there and say "up yours, shoulda made a longer list"' in a nice way of course.
I'll give it one more crack there and then try somewhere else, cause if the steering is lighter and it still doesn't pass they are just being w@nkers.

I have to agree with Eric there. I have had no trouble going over the pits down here in the bush. Sometimes not everything is passable, but if you promise to fix it when you get home they will let it through.

Feel your pain I had similar problems years ago on a car I was chasing my tail, was the garage all along, just cashing in on inspection fees,
Good luck buddy and you deserve a bloody medal for all your effort and hard work

No worries Craig... Its all you can do but as stated before.... unless you get an old school guy who gets these cars, your behind the 8 ball from the start.... Most have never driven anything like these fantastic cars before and they expect them to drive like a new cars with power/air and every mod con on them... Thank god they are not!!!
Stick with it mate... you have done a great job so far... my method for getting things over is to dazzle them... clean, wash, degrease, paint and replace... yes its all time and money but the end result says it all...
Cheers
