They haven't been doing inspections there long.
I'll find someone.

Yeah that's what i reckon too.
Just a shame cause it took a while to find a good one.
Don't use mechanics much these days anyway.

Hey Craig,
What is the Rule for Rego,
do we need to do it at the one in our area,
or can we get the inspection anywhere?
#531
Posted 01 August 2015 - 11:58 PM
Can do it anywhere mate

Not sure about WA but in NSW you are only allowed to drive an unregistered vehicle to the NEAREST convenient inspection station, different story if you're carting it around on a car trailer it of course.

In WA you can use "test drive" as a requirement for a permit, so I guess if you happened to be test driving around the area of your preferred inspection station.............

I'm not sure you can do that anymore Laurie.
It says on the online form you can only use it to get the car to a mechanic/service centre, inspection centre or to somewhere it is getting raffled off.
But, lets say I rebuild the brakes prior to taking it for rego.
How do I test that they work if I can't drive it on a permit?
Anyway, a few bits in the works.
Picked up some trailling arms to replace the ones I stole off my 4 door and got uppers with them so I am going to swap them in case they are bent/damaged too.
The bushes on the bent lower arm were flogged out so I'm guessing the ones on the uppers might be too.
Brake booster is off getting rebuilt so I can put a known good one in and put the other one back in the 4 door.
I also picked up some kick panels from eBay that will look better than the old beat up ones in there now. I think I may even be missing one? Can't remember.
Hoping to have another crack at rego soon.

Hey Craig, I feel some motivation coming back. Give it another crack and we'll be cruising by summer.

Yeah that's the plan mate.
Never really lost motivation, but it got bloody cold and I ran out of $$ lol.
Thats why I was frustrated when it didn't pass before cause I really did throw everything at it.

So I got a few bucks back in my tax return, and most of it got spent pretty quickly on essentials, but had a few bucks left over for the GTR.
Got my brake booster reconditioned so I can put the current one back in my 4 door.
This way I know the GTR has a good one, and the 4 door has one that works at least.

Spotted these on eBay for about $25 and decided I needed them cause I only have one at the moment and it is bent and buckled and holey.

I don't know if they look as per original but they will neaten up the front footwells so I'm happy.
Grabbed these off Liswar, was only really looking for lowers but got a good deal on the set. These will go in the GTR, and the ones in there now will go back in the 4 door.

Also got me a proper workshop jack at last.

Its a relatively cheap one, and I thought I had stuffed up at first.
I tried it when I bought it and it didn't go low enough to fit under the front crossmember on the torrie, I was gutted, so pushed it to the side in disgust and left it there until I decided what to do with it.
Tonight I was down the shed and realised it was actually raised up a bit, must have happened when I was moving it into position.
Let the pressure down (lol John Farnham), and it fits under fine.
Pumpy pumpy and up we go!
Stoked but embarrassed at the same time lol.

Yeh I bought a new jack a little while ago too. Mines red so it's faster! Same thing with the lowering ability... took too long and didn't drop far enough. I removed the release valve, refitted and it now works much better. Didn't actually do anything, just remove and refit.
Dontcha love new stuff??

Nice one Craig... always helps the cause when there is some injection of funds.... looks like you got some good buys there which means little steps closer to rego....
Spring is in the air... cold bloody air... but get cracking so you are cruising soon mate...
Cheers

I just had a look at the website Craig. It seems things have changed since I last got one. But you ask a valid question though. How do you know if your brakes work without test driving it???Potta, on 07 Aug 2015 - 15:24, said:

As usual the bureaucrats don't think about those things.
Hopefully the police would be more sensible lol

Police? More sensible? Yeah right!
If you're pulled over driving an unregistered vehicle, do you really reckon the copper is gonna send you on your way with their blessing just because you tell him you're testing your brakes?
I can tell you from personal experience, it once cost me near on a thousand bucks in fines for driving an unregistered vehicle out of a driveway and twenty metres up a street to a waiting car trailer, Gods honest truth. I argued that I could hardly back the car trailer up to the driveway and block the street for ten minutes while I loaded the car but I was told to tell it to the judge.

Yeah did you see the lol?
It was VERY tongue in cheek.
Their attitude is totally against anyone trying to have any sort of fun.
I think if you got pulled over at night even with a permit it would be hard to justify that you were on your way to your mechanic, which makes it very difficult to make sure your car works before you take it over the pits, especially because you have to book it in.
Anyway, no point whinging, it is what it is.

Spotted them on eBay and remembered having to put them up every 5 seconds when I was driving.
Much better now.
Not that I've driven it but you can put it in a position and it stays there!

Damn, what a marathon you are going through for rego, some of the cars I have had passed over the years were shocking compared to this torana. I feel your pain mate. As the boys have said, you will appreciate the effort later to make everything work now, as you will end up doing repairs once it is registered otherwise. Keep up the good work, sometimes I wish my torana was an complete old car that needed repairing rather that a pained shell and a list longer that Santa's to get it on the road again.....

Posted 18 September 2015 - 12:08 AM
Yeah that's why I bought this one cause it was easy to get on the road.
Its mostly my own fault that it isn't done yet, but its been hard to take time off work to get things done that I can't do.
Plus funds are always a factor.
Hoping to go again soon, so watch this space.
