Ordered a light blue speedo gear cause my speedo is way out.
Currently has a green 21 tooth gear, but should be light blue which is 25 so show's about 20 k's over at 100.

Yeah it sh!ts the missus when she follows me to get something done on it.
Happy wife = happy life
The last couple of times I've driven it I was doing about 20 over on the speedo and it seemed about right but you never know.
The cops will ping you for 5 k's over now so need to be sort of sure that it is at least close.

Landcruiser traybacks are almost that far out from factory. Mine would read 110 when you were only doing 101.

Test before ticket!
Done!!
Speedo reads near enough spot on, gotta be happy with that.
Reco'd brake booster works - WIN!
New battery cranks like a mofo - WIN
Drives like sh!t lol
Will see if I can get her purring before I take her for a wheel alignment tomorrow.
Posted 22 September 2015 - 12:41 PM
Put more fuel in and she goes better around corners.
Also adjusted my driving technique a bit.
After years of driving only diesels, you have to think about it a bit more, gear selection and acceleration levels needed adjusting.
Still needs the timing done properly, but that can wait for a bit.
The warmer weather today definitely helps a bit too, it was freezing last night.

Wheel alignment done, and had a chat to my new mate about what the actual problem is with my steering.
Seems to be a two fold issue, he can't get any more shims in but it probably needs more, in short, my K frame is bent, so at least there is a way to fix it.
Also, new ball joints, tie rod ends, and reconditioned steering rack are all tight as fck, which is a good thing, but also contributes to the heavy steering.
So, Me, wifey and the boy have been rotating shifts turning the steering wheel left and right with the car jacked up a little bit.
Hopefully that will get things moving a bit better.
It was either that or circle work and I can't afford new tyres so I'm hoping it will make a difference.

Forgive me for not going back through the posts Craig, but is the steering still heavy with the wheels off the ground?
Posted 24 September 2015 - 02:10 PM
Nope, not really.
Piece of p!ss actually.
Failed again anyway, must self centre.
FFS.
Got some new things that I didn't get before, nothing too bad, but the Self centering steering is going to kill me.

Fortunately not as hard as installing the diff housing bump rubbers.

Did Trev wind up the caster to help it self centre ?

These were a dealer/after market accessory rather than factory fitted. The globe is always in the dash but the switch to make it illuminate is optional. I'm pretty sure if you look in a glovebox manual this will back this up. Maybe someone can scan a copy and post it for you. That's would be one thing off the list without lifting a finger.
Hope you get the rest sorted quick smart so you can get out on the road.

he did as much as he could mate, but the problem is the rack and ball joints are so tight, it tries to self center but can't.
He did find that the castor was way out on one side, one wheel was 25mm forward of the other in the guard, so he fixed that.
It is definitely better than when I took it to him, but they still not happy.
Feels great to me but I can see their point.
I'm getting Wilkinson's to fix the rack boot so I'll see if they can loosen it off a bit a the same time. I don't know if that is possible, but we'll see.

If someone could do that it would be awesome.
Otherwise if someone has a switch and bracket they don't need, please let me know.

I hope not mate, not that I've done those either but doesn't look fun from what I've seen.
Thanks again for all your support guys, makes it easier to pick my chin up and get back into it.

The handbrake warning light assy is factory fitted to 82911 and 82569 models. Dealer fitted accessory for 82311 and 82369 models.
In any case the globe and holder and wiring will be there in the instrument fascia and harness as it is required for the brake fail warning on all models produced from 1st January 1971.
Craig, I suppose we should ask if you have tested the brake fail circuit to see if the warning light is working.
Disconnect the wiring connector from the brake fail switch and earth it out somewhere suitable on the chassis/body.
Now turn the ignition to the on position and see if the fail light illuminates.
