Hopefully the new old one will spin a bit free-er, early signs are positive but who knows.
At least it is still wearing both boots.
Here is the switch that Gene's mate made for me, looks like it will do the job.

1. Steering to self centre after turns - To be confirmed, different rack may make a difference, we will see2. Diff Leaking (previously fixed dammit) - Blatant lies lol. I can't find evidence of a leak, will make sure I give it a wipe prior to next inspection ;-)3. Busted bump stops on front suspension 4. Torn boot on my brand new steering rack, not happy jan!
5. Park brake warning lamp to operate correctly - bracket and switch acquired, to be fitted.

The handbrake warning light assy is factory fitted to 82911 and 82569 models. Dealer fitted accessory for 82311 and 82369 models.
In any case the globe and holder and wiring will be there in the instrument fascia and harness as it is required for the brake fail warning on all models produced from 1st January 1971.
Craig, I suppose we should ask if you have tested the brake fail circuit to see if the warning light is working.
Disconnect the wiring connector from the brake fail switch and earth it out somewhere suitable on the chassis/body.
Now turn the ignition to the on position and see if the fail light illuminates.
Hi Dave,
I've tested this now and yes the brake light does come on if I connect the brake fail wire to the chassis.
Does that change anything?
I also confirmed I have a 73 dash, the brake light is at the top.
I'm guessing I can just wire my switch into this circuit to make it work when the handbrake is up because it will do the same thing, ie earth to the chassis when the ignition is turned on.
Now off I go to pull out half my interior.
10 days and 1 job to go.

Half done, pulled half the carpet out and the console and found the wire for the handbrake switch near the dipper switch, tested and it works.
Need help to get the bolt out of the handbrake but missus was in bed already so have to wait lol.
If time allows I'm going to try to do a few little jobs that need doing when I put everything back together such as secure the console a bit better, trim it to fit properly, put my head unit in there, put my kick panels on and tidy the wiring up a bit.
But in reality I'll probably hastily chuck it back together and hope it works till I take it over the pits

No, just tells you the bulb is in working order.
You need your missus to help you undo a little bolt???
I hope for your sake this is the last trip over the pits so you can actually get her out and drive your nuts off.
Cheers
Dave.

Yeah I wasn't sure if there was some secret I wasn't aware of lol, but yes, the bulb works.
I didn't really need her help, but the nut under the car was turning and I wanted her to hold the bolt while I undid the nut..
Could have used some multigrips to hold it I spose, my spanner wouldn't stay on and my arms aren't long enough to hold it lol.
Plus it was late so I thought fck it.
I hope this is it mate, once this is done, there is only one questionable item, and I hope that is fixed or I'll be putting the cover on and leaving it, had a gutful.

Needed wifey for Number 5, had to get her to turn the bolt so I could find it.
Bracket and switch worked a treat, thanks Gene.

That nut is supposed to be welded to the underside of the floor pan.
Don't be too discouraged mate, you've just been unlucky enough to cop some numb nut inspectors.

Put her back together today, and did a couple of other jobs while I was at it.
First things first though, made sure the handbrake light worked with the console in.
Had to do some minor modification but we got there.

Also fitted my drivers side kick panel, amazing what a difference such a small thing can make.
No pic of that, use your imagination lol.
Also ran some insulation tape around the inside of the dashboard and covered the back of my amp gauge in insulation tape after a little mishap previously which almost led to a new wiring loom, luckily my nose was on the ball that day and I trusted it and saved her just in time.
Hopefully won't be a problem anymore. Also waiting for some little insulators that will go over the wire and then over the head of the nut so I'm not relying on duct tape to get the job done.
Modified my console so it fits better. It is an LC console and I have an LJ lower dash like much of the car.
It used to sit like this

I carefully removed a heap of staples from the back so that I could get access to trim the wood and foam.
I was originally going to use my jigsaw but it was only very thin plywood and it would have ripped it to shreds.
So ended up using some "Power scissors" and a stanley knife to get the job done.
Sorry about the picture rotations, computer is being a d!ck.
Peeled back the outer cover to reveal plywood and foam

Trimmed the wood then put the cover back on using a staple gun.

Now fits way better and more forward which helps with the gear stick, hand brake and mounting it so pretty happy with the result.
There is a bit of a gap but i'll sort that out later.
I also put some velcro on the bottom so that the carpet will stick to it and not expose the tunnel where I have cut out the hole for the shifter.
All in all a good days work, and hopefully going over the pits again this week.

Went over the pits again today.
Here is my new list of stuff to fix;
Big thanks to everyone who gave me advice, gave/sold me stuff, helped me track down stuff, put up diagrams of how stuff works, bought stuff from me to help pay for stuff and generally stopped me from giving up.
Still a lot of work to be done but now I can enjoy it at least.
I almost fell over when the guy told me it passed lol.
And to all those who said it wouldn't happen, not necessarily on this forum, thanks for the extra motivation

Yeah maybe, will have to sweet talk the Missus, in trouble at the moment for spending too much time on the Torrie and not enough on her car lol.
Apparently she would like air con in summer, I say its for wimps.
