this may seem unreal 2 most??? but I have heard stories about a very small number of (I believe) very late LJs, posiably put aside or held back for racing duties. but then sold off when they were superseded when the LH came along?????

ANYONE  know anything about this????????

I wouldn't be surprised if its true.

But what's the relevance?

Have you heard they were something special?

:blink2: :dontknow: and they wouldn't have been called XU-3's even if the stories were true.

jayson hi,yes ive heard this, and known about them for a long time, it had nothing to do with racing,
it was the last of the gtr toranas, u couldnt order an xu1 as they stopped building them so the next best thing was the late gtr toranas which were orded with the xu1 bits such as tripples, m21, long range tank, rear spoiler, xu1 booster, lsd etc i know of 5 of these gtrs,1 is was in tassie, a guy named rowen owned it he sent me a copy of the broadcast sheet, and yes it had xu-3 on the paper work the engine no wasnt jp or jl
it had another prefix ill look it up in my books the other cars also had the same engine prefixby memory they were late dec 73 gtrs cj rings a bell for the eng prefix ill look it up
they were tagged gtrs and all mustard in color again by memory

regards aldo

Hi..I always thought "XU3" was a hoodlining/ interior  colour code or something?....i.e. plenty of Toranas may have had XU3 on their broadcast sheets?

my 7 cents worth

That's correct, XU3 was the PO number for neutral colour headlining in the 1973/74 period. This was changed to XY9 in 75, probably to avoid further confusion.

Holden used XU3 on the HQ Ute's and Van's as a Suspension upgrade as well, I have seen Rolly's  LJ GTR Torana in Tassy, on his Broadcast Sheet it does have XU3 on it.

Not on HQ. XU3 was the PO code for a 750 kg load-rated Sandman package for HJ (from late 1975) to HZ.

Wasn't XU2 also a suspension PO for the vans as well?

Steve

The only reference that I've got for XU2 is as the PO number for the SL/R5000 package on LH/LX Toranas.

I've got XU4 as the PO number for the 'passenger ride' suspension package for non-Sandman Utes & Vans in HJ/HX/HZ series. It's not actually different suspension components, it's only the tyres that were different. The same goes for XX7/XU3.

AL

By all accounts XU3 on the broadcast sheet would mean it was optioned with a neutral headliner. Doesn't mean it is or deserves to be called a GTR XU3???

Yeah Dave

at the time I thought WTF when I seen the XU3 on the broadcast sheet, as I only knew of XU3 for the Sandman Van's and Ute's, I was told HQ and why HQ as it was the first Sandman the HQ (Jan 1974), but Dr. Terry says HJ. But as the forum is a great Rana learning place, XU3 is for the roof lining, interesting note XU3 getting used twice, then later on HSV used XU3 as a Yellow Colour for its VR/VS HSV Dore, so used 3 times

PffffffT!

You're all wrong (as usual)

GMH did perform a SECRET test at a SECRET location for Experimentle Unit 3 (XU3) in the early 70's

The cars weren't mustard, they were Purr Pull and the headlining was BLACK!...................here's the proof!
