Well the plenum honestly wasn't in awful shape - probably better than most Toranas. The last owner had made a reasonable attempt from the underside (with the dash frame still installed etc. which I think would have been fairly tricky. The panel he made up was nice but the overlap concerned me as a point at which moisture would build up, he had then tackled some of the less heavily rusted areas with a rubbery goop on the underside which was probably a decent band-aid but when the car is this far stripped it'd be silly not to go a little further.
Long story short I elected to pull the top off today so that I could do a few patch repairs, know 100% what I was dealing with, and finish it/seal it thoroughly - that last point was probably the main one!
Un-picked all of the spots welds and cut up the sides:
Open sesame:
So my car has been built quite well by the last fella, but not flawlessly. This is a repair on the LHS that is not ideal.
The RHS is pretty rusty and hasn't been touched:
Just went balls deep and cut out all the areas I wasn't stoked with. The repair piece from the LHS I can use again, but with good top access I should be able to trim it and do a better job of installing it.
Getting quicker at making repair sections.
Little bit down, plenty more to go haha
