Lol! Love heart exhaust tips...

Really, you're a pretty handy dude Heath. Looking good bud, especially with the flares.

Each to there own I just like em without flares especially cutting up a nice set of guards

If you can fit a big rubber under the guards, why would you want to put some fibreglass band aids on the beast?

Remember guys, it's only a UC!

If you think the flares was a bad move, wait til you see the rest of the plans. As for interior, the only place that Heath will have to sit is back and watch the haters hahahahahaha

BTW for interest purpose, that is a standard length VL diff with standard hatch flares and the wheel is an 18x8 (0 offset). I reckon I could comfortably go for a 0 offset 17x10.5" or similar with a fraction of stretch even with this longer diff.

I'm not sure whether to replace the diff with something shorter to get more dish or not...

Makes the car lighter too !

Wheel weighs the same no matter the back spacing, narrower diff has less to it, so less weight there. Unless you want unsprung weight I suppose.

(18 x 10 or 10.5 is a good size.. could go 275/40 or 295/30 or 35 tire then..)

I would leave it, zero offset is a good spot to be for wheel choice

Been searching and finally found a built thread to keep me interested and motivated. I like the old muscle car styling for all Toranas. Big deep dish wheels, carby  v8 or 6 cyl, solid paint colours,  original interior, and money and time spent on quality and not quantity. Heath is on track at the moment but everybody has their own opinions and life would be boring if all Toranas were the same, we will see which way he goes.

Hey Heath, I've got 17"x10" (255/40/17) on the rear with std external guards, a little inner rear guard massaging. Shocks stand straight up right to clear the tyre, as I'm running std track.
So with flares you should be able to easily fit 10.5", but i guess that is kinda influenced by your rolling circumference. My width & od was limited by my engineer.
Because I went 9", I shortened it so I could use 3 3/8" backspace. Yeah I know with nearly 6" dish the bearings have extra stress, but they are the large series f-truck bearings, running on 31 spline mosers with 1/2"studs. Considerable larger than the original small salsbury diff bearings, axles & studs. Attached File  ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430297883.329262.jpg   244.33K   18 downloads

Ok Ron im not letting you off that easy. If you going to raise the bar like that for an "un tubbed" std guard torana I need some more info.

What is the total length of your 9" wheel mounting face to mounting face? What do your rear shock mounting points on the diff look like? And by massage the inner guard, did you just cut the bit of skin between the inner guard and the chassis and massaged it back against the chassis?

sorry for the thread jack. If you want put up all the info in a new thread over in the wheels section.

Yeah sorry Heath, very keen to see what directions this build is taking. Awesome workmanship from what I've seen so far.
Yeah I might start a build thread soon, I just want to get the damn thing on the road, 7+ years is too long.... Hopefully by the end on the month... I will pm you TempesT when I do.
