Great parts car..... LOL
Looks like a great pickup.
How long till you start fiddling with it?

Most boys start that kind of thing at about 12 years old.How long till you start fiddling with it?

Thanks for the input guys.

Ummm... good question. Kinda ran out of money buying this when I had no intention of purchasing another car. I haven't done anything of significance yet but I do have big long term plans. Drives well and shouldn't need much to get it on the road - everything is in good nick.
Main problems that I see are a diff with a fraction too much backlash and no LSD, not enough cam timing, horrendously unsuitable wheels and four wheel drive stance (and the associated body roll). Haven't got a precise game-plan just yet.

Hey, you gotta hatch & that's all that matters!! Looks nice

Spot on to my thoughts haha.
Had the front end apart. Found a few things not torqued up correctly, one stuffed outer wheel bearing and the lower balljoint boots were buggered.
Lowered the UCA pivot point height by 30mm (no dive adjustment)
Painted the springs red to match the rest of what's in there, KHFL-14s but a bit went missing somewhere along the way. This photo also shows the drum brake front stubs and the caliper adapters which I've never actually seen before. Countersunk bolt at the top, and two more at the bottom (front and rear) which go in from the back.
Also just painted the hub area of the DBA17 (or similar) rotors silver because the red looked pox.
May be interested in selling this front brake setup further down the track (PM me if you're interested) as I may want to go another route.

Always something that needs doing/fixing on old cars eh!
Those discs look like HQ -WB DBA 014's or equivalent.

lol the more I can do to make this thing mine the better. Love being back in a Torana but don't love driving a car that someone else put together haha.
They are 290mm and Commodore pattern. Got the bearing numbers written down too, presumably the same as Torana.

I bit weird it doesn't have a cable clutch in it.

Yeah, pays to check things have been done properly.
They are Commodore calipers but the rotors look like HQ.

Hi Heath,
They are early commodore rotors. You can tell from the distance between the wheel mount up face and the disc itself. The commo one is set back an extra 10mm or so more than HQ-WB. Bearings are the same so no issue there. I just went through similar on mine. Someone had fitted HQ stubs, commo rotors, spacers and HJ girlock calipers on mine. Maybe you could just fit HQ stubs, discs and calipers?
How much came of the KHFL14's? lol
What's the new stance like?

The caliper adapter plate is a CRS item, they make them to suit HQ brake to torana drum brake stubs or commodore brakes.
Posted 21 July 2013 - 06:54 PM
Yes Peter she was a factory four - not sure why they didn't choose to keep the MC6; M20 with rat trap seems like multiple steps backwards haha.
I was told the caliper adapters were actually a 'V6 Conversions' unit. Not sure exactly what I will do with the brakes yet. I think I would like a slip on rotor with 4-1/2" PCD and a better caliper design (got some GTS-T style Nissan calipers I might be keen to use). Hadn't figured out stub axle choice or anything yet. Need to figure out something that is going to clear the wheels I choose to use to.

It's actually a LX that has had a UC front and rear upgrade.

Well that's the last time I tell anyone a bloody secret!
How much came of the KHFL14's? lol
What's the new stance like?
Kept it pretty conservative but I wasn't the first person to give them the snip lol. Front should be down about 30mm (haven't driven it yet) and I've pulled the rear springs out, taking them to get reset tomorrow (aiming for about the same change on the arse end).
Also chucked my modified accellerator pedal from my green sedan in. The photo doesn't really show the subtle change but it makes a big different on the street when you're not threshold braking.
Found this when I pulled it apart (didn't notice it before). I recognise the switch as a Torana slushomatic kickdown, but this thing is a factory manual. Is that an original bracket and is that what it's for?

All in. Shit photo because it was dark outside but you get the rough idea. Drop at the front wasn't all that conservative haha.

Oooh, love the car but please, no more shots from that angle till those tail lights are gone
Posted 24 July 2013 - 03:07 PM
Very nice.
Posted 24 July 2013 - 03:22 PM
Yeah, the car is great...love it.
Maybe tint the tail lights - it makes them stand out less I think.
Posted 24 July 2013 - 03:28 PM
One great thing about the tail lights, you can't see them from the drivers seat.

Looks heaps better Heath. Just gotta get some manly wheels for it now.
