Yes, that is what we are talking.

Falcons had a watts link pin on the cast alloy diff hat and and transmitting the transverse load through the diff hat. Were they dowelled? If not, I wouldn't see that force to be much different.

I have one of those somewhere, from memory it does have a couple of small dowels in it. More for locating though, if its done up tight then the whole face takes the force.

This will also be fastened to the axle tubes obviously, in addition to that.

Yeah that's likely to help more than anything else as it will spread the load a lot further, are you just going to bolt the parts together?

Which parts, sorry?

Going to weld some stand-offs onto the axle tubes and run bolts through the brace onto the tubes to tie it all together. The ball joint pin will fit into a taper on the top of the brace, the balljoint will screw into a threaded tube on the top link.

I was talking about the brace to the axle tubes, was envisioning something sorta like that. I never would have thought of running a brace like that on anything but a Banjo-style housing, you know its good engineering when its simple (with the value of hindsight!)

Yeah drag guys swear by them limiting housing flex & tie it to the caps so less likely break gears...they've got heaps more power than I'll ever have & faster times so must be onto something.

What you think this will weigh when finished?

You are doing such clean work its a credit to you. I was wondering how all the steel chassis braces and welding effects the legalities of the vehicals license? It must be adding to the weight and structures integrity. The licensing dept herein wa get all funny about changing the chassis.

Heath I think you might have to change your motto on the bottom of the page to " more weight, more cubic displacement " or more boost.

How much do you recon it will weigh when finished ?

Are you asking me to predict the weight of the car? Or the weight of the diff brace and rear link? The diff will be heavier than the standard setup, significantly. And the gas tank assembly in the back will weigh more than the standard car too.

Not everything can be decreased in weight - it's particularly difficult when I'm trying to make it happy dealing with higher forces than the standard car was able to deal with - but where possible I'm trying.

Where are the pics??
If you really want to save weight, you need to ditch all the metal panels. If only someone would lend me a hatchback moulds so I can make some nice light vacuum infused carbon fibre parts.
I already had a thought to mould the roof and quarters when mine is painted.. Then I can make a full composite hatchback to race in sports sedan.

Both my Torana's ended up weighing much more than I thought, the hatch come in at 1,430kg and the SLR 1,450kg unfortunately adding a few mod cons and a bit of strength quickly add up.

Mine came in at 1350, alloy engine, diff center, radiator, glass bumpers, lightweight Recarros, small optima battery ect. And its full chassis with heater, dynomatt and all legal requirements.I just made sure no heavy unnecessary stuff was added or removed.

I would have thought they would weigh around 1200kg's. I will build a lightweight one, maybe. No wonder I can beat toranas in my MX5. (Weighs pretty much 1000kg's)

At the risk of playing devil's advocate I don't doubt that's true in a straight line but...

Heath is working on the whole package though I'm sure ;-)

True on Heaths package, although I prefer not to discuss other peoples package in too much detail ;)

I could definitely see a MX5 walking a Torana in anything somewhat twisty.

There may well be one exception to that Bomber. Don't think it's finished yet, but Glen(think that's his name) building the hatch with the skyline(??) driveline. That should be great handling hybrid (I think I'm safe calling it that).

Plus, apart from my comment being a bit of a smart ass comment, I was thinking lights to lights. Not often you get a chance to go someone on twisties (depending on where you live of course).

I think the equation is for every 10kg lost you gain 1.2hp offset.
