B = Battery or +12v

S = Sender Unit.

Thanks SPac.
Other questions have now arisen,
the temp gauge now goes all the way over and stays there, if I remove the sensor wire it returns back. I've put a new sensor in vdo #320-021. Any ideas ?
Does the back of the cluster need to be earthed ?

Yes, the main backing plate of the speedo and tacho has to be earthed and there should be a flat metal earth strap on the gauge mounting bracket on each side that connects to the main backing plate.

another tip, run and earth wire from the metal brackets of guages through firewall to engine block, can be attached to loom to look neat

this will stop guage readings changing when you turn lights on or use brake, also flickering when indicator is used

it can be very annoying

Djbj70, when you say "new" VDO #320-012 sensor, where did you buy it from?. I was thinking these were getting hard to source?

Limo, that problem is usually caused by a poor head light earth connection at the radiator support panel.

Have you disconnected the temp warning light test wire (Dk green) from the ignition switch?

yes I know that  but even with good earth there I have had problems, as you know the  electrical lighting  system /guages /radio /heater earths to body and back to battery through 1   4mm earth strap connected at the headlight point can be quite large current

should be a decent size strap to stop voltage drop but if you want original you use that skinny wire that is part of the terminal connection.

Sorry to jump in to the thread, but rather than start another, a question re the "speed nuts" for the screws to hold the dash in.  IE: just replaced a bulb in my dash and found the the screw supports/speed nuts/name? were missing.  Any idea where to get replacements.
