Hi everyone ive recently recieved a torana which my father owned for over 20 years..well when he got it it had been full restored at the time but had no vin plate it only had a compliance plate. Well he nevwr got around to finishing the car now i have it but dont know where to start..the guards have been replaced so nothing there. and ive heard under the compliance plate there should b a vin number.. is this true?? I dont wanna just rip its only tag off to check lol.please someone help me also i live in nsw thanks

Unless it's supposed to be a GTR or a GTR XU1 I wouldn't bother about the Vin details. Just finish her off and enjoy.

there will only be numbers under the ADR plate if it is a GTR or XU1

maybe last 4 digits of the Holden PSR, the number that was on the thin tag on rad support

some Adelaide ones have 6 digits

Brisbane built cars had the 3 last numbers of the vin in a thick black type pen and Adelaide that I have seen had the last 4 scribe in regardless if the were GTR,XU1s or 4Doors.

Thanks everyone..no its a 4 door with all the gtr trim and gear on it. so can i register it with just the compliance plate and engine number in nsw? Note it hasnt been registerd for atleast 25 years or so.. and yes dave i been looken at this car since i was a baby.. now 28 and shes mine lol

Yes sunburst i think its built in brisbane as it has a b after the numbers on the compliance plate.

Shane even if you had no compliance plate you can still get it rego"d in NSW on the chassi number that on the left inner guard.

Hi Dane. I thought the last three numbers in the thick black type pen on Brisbane built cars was the body number not the vin.

Did u check the inner guard ? Right near the little arrow here...

cars at my parents ill check this arvo and see how we go..ill just note the car had a bare metal respray over 25 years ago..thanks everyone for your advise.

Chassis number is stamped on the left skirt in the engine bay. Easy to see if its not there the skirt may have been replaced. The number on the skirt should match the ADR tag attached to the plenum chamber just behind the brake booster.

Chassis number should be stamped similar to this in the left hand wheelhouse panel.

That would be a good idea.... I assumed you would have already checked that, i.e you had the car nearby while asking questions
