A9X Hatch glove box lining difference

is that when I was working for a crash repairer between 1988 & 1997, a young fella came in with a black
SS hatch with slate trim which I suspected was an A9X. It had the correct looking flares & spoilers, &
looked thru the rear wheels & saw it had rear disc brakes. But, what confirmed it for me at the time was
that while I was sniffing around I looked inside the glove box & stuck to the inside top of the lining
was a small production type sticker that said A9X. It was about an inch long & half inch high, was white
with black dot matrix style print, from memory. Can anyone shed any light on this, or is my memory
playing tricks on me.
The guy was getting a couple of paint touch ups done. I didn't see him to ask him about the car, but the
boss said he had only recently bought it & that he had paid $10000 for it, which we all thought was a lot
of money for an average condition car.
Pete.

Pete,
That is my car. Was that at Refines with Jim?

I am sure it is very reassuring to hear stories of people rummaging in your car whilst in was in a workshop.

Workshop employees rummaging around in your car is only the tip of the iceberg.
I'd be more worried about the increased miles/km on the odo when you pick up your vehicle after having work done that doesn't require a test drive be performed.

It may have been your car, but there were 5 black on black hatches. It was at a crash repairer in Clare in the Mid North of SA & I reckon it was probably in the early 90s. Do you have any knowledge of the A9X sticker. Pete.

Wasn't rummaging, just a discrete look.

Hi Pete,
I think you will find there are/were 4 tuxedo hatches with 18v (slate) and 2 tuxedo with 60A (chamois). Of the 4 black/slate, mine is the only one with the 2.6 diff ratio....early production batch.
I bought the car late 80s from a chap in the Moonta area who bought it from a decease estate not long before. It certainly was a polished turd when I got it as the gleam hid the years of abuse that car had received. It has cost me a packet to rebuild it and a ton of heart break.....still.
This car has always been an SA car, it was sold by Freeman motors and then traded for a JPS beamer by the original owner. I still have the books.
I still suspect it is the same car as apart from Jason's hatch in Mt Gambier it is the only black hatch around. You may have looked at it not long before I bought it?
BTW all A9X's should have that sticker or they are fakes!!

Hi Baron,
According to Just Holdens magazine there were 6 black hatches, 5 were black on black, 1 with G70 & 4 with GU4, & the other one had 18V chamois & GU4. Perhaps their figures are wrong.
The guy who owned the car came from over Burra way. My brother knew him. I will ask my brother some questions.
Why does the A9X have that sticker in that spot. At least I now know for sure it was an A9X. I had often wondered.
Pete.

Pete,
I guess I could be wrong, I have sold off/given away all my records, documents and references. My memory is not what it once was with all the grey (well white actually) hair but most magazines are wrong too.....even AMC.
With regards to the sticker, I would rather not discuss online........gotta keep the mysterious cloak around the A9X if you know what I mean.
yes I hear all the sighs!

Can anyone name to me any part of the L34 or A9X that actually had L34 or A9X on it?
I call bullshit, and so do you. It's not hard to make up a sticker. The red sedan down your way had A9X on the bonnet scoop, so was that genuine?

This a real smart arse answer but the L34 had L34 on the build tag. Not being a smart arse now, I take it that the sticker thing is a bit of BS.

You gonna make me look Darky? You know this means I have a job for tomorrow. I was planning to look at the high note horn, still to working consistently.

Don't bother Craig, you will never find it without assistance.
