The time is coming soon to upgrade from standard front brakes to a more high performance application.  (street/club circuit)

I'm wondering if anyone has bought & installed this type of kit & are they satisfied with them? I still want to use my 14x8" 14x10" Hotwires atm & the wheel will just fit over using the 11" rotor (HQ size). The rotor has a third PCD option so it allows me to have it drilled the Torana stud pattern. The other bonus is the rotor already has the HQ stud pattern if I wish to change wheels in the future. Your feedback will be appreciated.

Too small for any real track work

Caliper clearance might be an issue

Ran hq rotors and calipers on am old lj race car... Required ducting and rotors only lasted 3-4 race meetings.. With right pads pulled up great!

I've heard Willwood brakes are Not Legal in Australia as they don't have dust boot's or similar, Wanted to buy some for mine but turned off when told they are illegal...

Anybody confirm...

Theoretically correct

But Wilwood does do many calipers with dust seals

However none were ever factory fitted to a car and have no ADR approval

So with any brake upgrade engineering/rego approval would be required on a case by case basis

Castlemaine offer a full front end with Coilovers and the option of a wilwood brake setup and give engineers certificate with them, could issues with rego still arise if these are used?

The certificate CRS give is not a licensing fitting approval. You still have to get an engineer (in your state) to approve the fitment of the CRS kit.

Apologies for the thread resurrection but I'm looking for a definitive answer on whether brake calipers MUST have dust seals or not?

I see that NCOP5_Section_LG_Brakes_V2_01Jan2011 (page 9) says: "Caliper pistons must be fitted with dust seals."

But I've searched through both the Second Edition ADR 31 & Third Edition ADR 31/03 and I can't find any reference to dust seals in either, so I'm wondering where the reference in NCOP5 came from?

Anyhow, based on the assumption that most engineers will go by the NCOP, I've been to Wilwood's Caliper Listing and none of the calipers that suit my application have dust seals (some do but the ones I want don't).

And I've been to AP Racing's Caliper listing and the only calipers I can find there with dust seals are some of the "Rally Raid" range, which is not exactly what I'm after either. I see quite a few cars here fitted with AP Racing brakes, so how are you getting these engineered (or are you not)?

Don't even ask about Brembo, their website sucks the big one, it's absolutely useless for custom applications. If somebody can point me to a technical listing for Brembo I'd be grateful, all I can find is a listing based on car models?

Do all Brembo calipers even have dust seals?

Or will it simply be a case of finding an engineer who doesn't care about dust seals... which is unlikely as most seem too concerned about covering their ass to make an independent decision (not that I blame them)?

Brembo caliper (road calipers) have dust BOOTS

AP's have whats called a DIRT SEAL on a lot and a dust BOOT on others (newer variants)

The AP dirt seal looks alot like the normal hydraulic seal and is inside a groove in the body

Both calipers with dust boots clearly look like boots like on a normal road caliper

Racing calipers don't have dirt seals or boots usually

WHat caliper do you actually want ?

HI, been in this position myself. I got some JBT calipers that I might fit in the future, or have a look at  Hi Spec motorsport. They are an English company and have a good range and priced not bad.

WHat caliper do you actually want ?

Sorry, just realised I forgot to reply... I'm kinda restricted with my options...

I'm using the Strange Engineering F5010 full-floater on my diff housing, problem is, it's designed for one particular Wilwood brake kit only...

ds895_IPB-lg.jpg

...with 4 piston Forged Narrow Superlite calipers...

Forged_Narrow_Superlite_4_Radial_Mt-Nick

...but obviously they don't have dust seals. They are a radial mount @ 152mm centres (which seems to be a fairly standard size) so I'm wondering if I can maybe buy the Wilwood kit without the calipers and find another brand of caliper (with dust seals) that will bolt on?

Looks like the same brake kit except for the calipers and mounting brackets, yours are lug-mounted, the one I'm looking at has radial-mount calipers.

The lug-mount brake kit (120-12420) is US$840 but the radial-mount brake kit (140-12435) is well over twice the price at US$1955

Although that doesn't really make sense because the Dynalite (cheaper kit) calipers sell for US$189ea and the Forged Narrow Superlite calipers sell for US$324ea, the difference is only US$270 ($135 x2) but the difference between the two "kit" prices is US$1,115

Something doesn't add up? Going by those prices (which all came from the Wilwood website) it would be cheaper to buy the lug-mount kit, throw those calipers in the bin and buy the Radial-mount calipers separately? That should leave you with US$467 to buy (or make) the radial mounting brackets, surely they couldn't cost that much?

EDIT: Okay I see what you're saying, your rotors are 12.19" dia to suit 15" wheels (according to Wilwood) and the kit I priced have 12.88" rotors to suit 17" wheels, so a little difference in price there too.

Wow thats not right hey.that radial bracket
must be heaps.and the thicker rotor..
Yeah the whole kit is a ripoff i reckon.
caliper pads are rather small but seeing it
was a package there is no muck arsing around
+ they had the boots to pass the engineering
side for street.but your right the radials
would b better but suxs with no boots..
