Dunno, the metal ring at the bottom could be depressed, I'm assuming to make the water flow so yeah old school piss trophs maybe.

I'm going to speculatively say definitely there might have been tunnels.

 

Also, they wouldn't be the only company to bury stuff to get rid of it, and if it was top secret or stuff they weren't sposed to be making, where else are they going to bury it?

 

That would be a fair assumption Craig as there were concrete tunnels between mills at the Port Kembla Steelworks where I did my apprenticeship back in 1965.

 

These tunnels carried cables and pipes between mills and was a good place to hide out if you were an apprentice with some idle time.

 

As far as where the real business took place, that would depend on what side of the fence you were on

Lol.... I thought it was a bit wierd all checking each other out while taking a leak...... An ashtray could have sat up on the top centre piece..! Lol.

My old man worked there for many years.  One of his jobs was to move the cars around on the tarmac.  Poor bugger, hot sweaty work!  As for the tunnels - an urban myth.  That said, there were/is three large 6ft stormweater drains that ended just under the fence.  I have personally explored the system.  :)
