I bought a brand new manual VK 134 pack in 1986, it had the 4.9 litre engine that they called the black motor, the engine code was LV2, I am certain when I got it the rocker covers were black, I changed them after a while to chrome ones, likewise the air cleaner had a GMH 5.0 Litre sticker on it, even though it was a 4.9, I changed that for a chrome lid too, and put the Brock 4.9 litre sticker on it (dead cool)
Funny thing was , a mate of mine at the same time bought a manual VK Berlina which was called the 234 pack, his was also a 4.9 litre, but his engine code was V7X, there was only a month between the manufacture of these 2 cars as well, mine was 12/85, and his 11/85, never did know what the difference was, although mine did seem to go better than his
Any info on the diffrerence in these engines would be appreciated, I had that car for 10 years and sold it in 1996 for $11,000 it only had 103,000 km on it, I remember at the time I could have sold it 20 times over, the phone never stopped ringing, long before the internet, and carsales.com.au, just the trusty old Trading Post for those who remember it
The V7X motor had a VG prefix & had big valve heads & all of the other necessary stuff to enable Holden to homologate the 500 SS Group A 'Sporting Evolution' Commodores for Group A touring car racing. Holden had to make 5000 of these to qualify.
134/234/334 packs with this motor were very sought after by those 'in the know'.
