What do people use to pull banjo pinion flanges? I was thinking just use steering wheel or damper puller with nut and bolt through opposing u bolt holes. Just swapped from 3.89 to 3.36 in the 186 fb ute and its leaking from the seal by the looks.

Never mind. Came off easily. Dont think it was torqued to 120lbft.
Possibly the nut has been reused.

Chances are it will be noisy, from memory there is a collapseable spacer in there that may not like being retensioned. I remember doing what you are doing with a 3.36 Salisbury once and it was quiet afterwards but a 2.78 banjo I also did was noisy.

I remember something about replacing the spacer and retensioning according to tourque setting required to turn the pinion.

Yes. If the diff was growly then it's game over/rebuild time. If it was a leaking pinion seal only then the dealer method was to mark the pinion, flange and nut before dismantling. Replace the seal and do the nut up a bit past the marks to crush the tube a tad more.

Not noisy, just leaking. I was referring to FB workshop manual, which says use a new nut, apply bearing grease mixed with white lead and retension to 120 lbft. Not an FB diff of course, but I don’t have a later manual.

Back together torqued to about 80 not 120. No noise. Should hold oil.
