finally got them in today! we were able to use a pipe repair clamp which I about 50mm wide so it compresses the entire rubber. we then used a socket the correct size to sit on the bump rubber and clamped down from the diff tube to the socket which forced the bump stop into the recess. I don't know if any of that makes sense but if anyone else is having great troubles with them I could probably put up a few pictures to help explain.

Makes perfect sense Kieran, similar to installing a piston with a piston ring compressor. Bloody great idea, 10 points for that.
