Mine is 1977 & doesn't have the over riders

It was probably optioned on the red one.

Overriders were standard on;

LH:  Nil as standard equipment,

LX: SL/R (3.3 and 4.2lt) and SS (all variants),

UC: SL Deluxe Torana and SL/E Sunbird

They were however, an option for all models of LH, LX and UC Toranas

So not standard on a 5000. Is that right?

That would be correct, the first buyer or dealer would have had to order it as an option.

Hi everyone, I'm going to be re-spraying the bonnet in the next month or so and while I'm at I was going to put a reverse cowl on her too, to complete the A9X kit.

My question is, which size scoop is correct? I'm looking at one on fleabay that is 910x610x90. Would this be right?
Thank you.

What year is this car? Mine is 1977 & doesn't have the overrides, & has Torana sticker on the nose cone.

Victor

Not sure of the year, I will ask him next time I see him & not sure if it should have a Torana sticker on the nosecone or not, someone on here will know.

Pete.

I think the 76 model LX 5000's had the chrome TORANA badge on the passenger side of the nose cone, and they changed to the decal in 77

Stand to be corrected on this if I am wrong

While we were down in Maitland, we got to talk with an old holden dealer who was around from HQ era to VB commodore and even though he never recalls selling an L34 or an A9X, the part department and paint shop always were kept busy with customers wanting the look without the associated purchase price and insurance costs.

He did say though, if you had the money, you could get any options you wanted and any paint scheme, so the only real way to know would be the production build sheet or customer order.

But on the original question, for the LH range, I quickly check for the chrome trim on the internal of the windows, torana in cast letters across the front, thick over thin body stripe on the top bodyline, SLR's had the black under the front, sides and tail, chrome bumpers with black rubber,  L34's had just the black on the back, plain chrome bumpers and the obvious flares and HQ stud pattern.

LX had the stencilled SLR5000 down the side, A9X not, but they had the look as the l34, slightly wider flares, but fully blacked out bonnet, but NO chrome, only on the hatchback and the blackouts were narrover in line with windscreen on them, both had the bonnet scoop

A9X ...... NO chrome,

Was it only the A9X that had the black door handles, did some of them have chrome ones?

3rd owner. But have sale documents from holden as the second owner gave everything he had & got with the car. Even the sale receipt from the first owner.

Who he went to see to find out why he sold the car after 3 months.

He was a postman from England. He was told he was getting transferred back there. But it didn't go through, so ended up staying in Australia. Might see one day if he still lives at the address on the paperwork I have.

3rd owner.

Are you certain it came from the dealer that way?

Was the silver stencil optioned? It seems an unusual combination with black handles.

LX SL/Rs all had the sticker on the nosecone.(Maybe a few came through with nothing) I have never seen the chrome badge away from centre.
I think all LX SL/Rs had the painted door handles too.

Incorrect. The LX SL/R and LX SL/R 5000 as well as other LX models had badges on passenger side of front apron. Apparently 77 model LX SL/R 5000 had sticker, A9X had sticker.

I have never seen the chrome badge away from centre.

This would mean you have only seen LH Toranas and have never seen an LX Torana.

The LH had lettering across the centre of the front apron above the grille for all models all the way up to the SL/R 5000 and even the L34 optioned SL/R 5000.

The LH also did not have a grille badge.

My LX L32 built 9/76 has the badges on the front apron, passenger side.

99mblj.jpg

There was a time when I could tell straight away if someone was from Melbourne, you all call the front apron a 'nose cone'. There was a guy in Melb. that made Trans Am style fibreglass front ends for HQ & Falcons, similar to what you find on the Dodge racer above. These were all the rage and he advertised them as 'nose cones'

I don't see the connection, Torana fronts look nothing like these but I guess the name stuck.

Nose cones are actual cones at the front of missiles/rockets.
