Hogg’s car was a 1970 Cadillac De Ville convertible in the TV series and a 1976 Eldorado in the film.

The HQ was an older design for a cancelled North American project, possibly was to be the 1970 Beaumont that was never built. That is why the nose shape is so radically different to the 1974/5 HJ update. We all see the HQ as a 1971 car but the baseline styling was 4+ years old by the time it was released. But the HJ update looks very much like its US relatives.

On that topic what about the origins of the FX (48-215). The 'official' history was that it was a small Chev designed for the US market that never eventuated.
In recent years, research has shown that while US designed, it was based on a proposed Opel Olympia design (circa 1937) that was shelved due to WWII.

Will have to get there. I've been all over Birdwood but never stopped at Echuca. Need to see its tags! It is very Chevrolet Caprice. It also explains where the HZ SL/E grilles came from and the N71 wire wheels too.
I reckon it's a V7H prototype, ie HZ Calais. It was cancelled but released as the HZ Champagne Special. The colour, the Deville wreath on the nose and the N71 wheels give it up I think.

They are all GM products so designers moved around and swapped ideas. GM Corporate would have had influence too. John Schinella designed the HK coupe and went back to North America to design plenty of memorable US cars like the 1977 Transam Firebird.
That is pretty much Boss Hogg's car from the Dukes of Hazzard movie just a convertible and Eldorado spec.

Pretty cool ute. Shame HDT didn't do utes when Sandmans were around. A modified HJ L31 M41 Sandman ute with L34 spec heads, intake etc would have been a good thing.

Very nice.Is that a RHD Datto?
Left hook
I prefer it that way
Easier to get parts for rather than some cobbled up conversion bit
