I saw a nice one of those a little while back upgraded to a decent engine. It had an alloy headed 327 in it. Still a lot heavier than the original though.

The VK cop car in Clays post would be pretty rare being M40 GU4 wouldn't it? I thought the autos were mostly 2.78.  I see it also has the V8P option code which is "Modified Gate Transmission Control". Any ideas as to what it entailed?

There were no 2.78 rear axles since about the middle of HX. It was replaced by 2.6:1. When we used to raid these cars for engines and gearboxes back in the 90's (a good driving 308 or 304 auto VK were $500-$1000 in the 90's) a lot were 3.08, and a lot also 2.6. You could find 2.78 in the disguised banjo diffs in 6cyl and 4.2L examples but not in VK. You can see it isn't part of the Police package so is probably just a performance rear axle.

AFAIK the V8P "modified gate transmission control" is just a different detent gate. Instead of being able to select N & D without lifting the selector tab, with V8P you can go from D to 2 & back without lifting the tab.

Not many 6cyl HQ LS left anymore, most turfed the 202 and replaced with a V8 years ago. Although looking again it has dual exhaust so maybe already have done that.
